I used to have an old delta wood lathe but I sold it and bought a nice Powermatic 90 with a reeves drive on it. Much better suited for turning bowls than the delta. Delta had a 1"-8 spindle, so I used a Nova chuck for it. I really like that chuck. And I think I would still use that on my powermatic... but hell, I can't even find an adapter for it. Plenty of 1 1/2-8 to 1 1/4-8 adapters around. But no 1 1/2"-8 tpi to 1"-8 tpi to be found. The only people who seem to even list one in their catalog is Hurricane and they've been OOS forever and a day. I'd really prefer to go with a new chuck that's threaded for 1 1/2-8, anyways since its certainly easier on the headstock bearings... but the only one I can find like that is a Grizzley with "mixed" reviews. I don't mind paying more for quality... but it doesn't seem to be something that even exists anymore. Am I going to have to get a machinist to weld and center tap a backing plate or something onto my Nova? eta: I ordered the Hurricane 1 1/2 to 1 1/4 adapter. Will see if I can get a machinist to turn down that 1 1/4 shank to 1" and re-thread it. Probably the least painful way to do this for the moment. |

Wow! Pretty odd size it seems! This company list quite a few and also states they can make custom ones.(I have not used them) https://bestwoodtools.store.turbify.net/prstspadwith.html I love my Nova chucks. I just ordered another one that's coming in today. That will make 6 for me! I hate changing jaws! I need adapters also as I'm getting a new lathe soon. |
