99% of the time when I see someone with mangled/amputated fingers, it’s a table saw. My wife has managed to build chicken coops, fuel sheds, etc without one so we have held off getting one. Godspeed.

I have my Dad's old saw I helped him pick up from Sears in about 1968. All cast iron and steel, heavy as hell. I really don't do much wood working, but I'll never let it go. My wife followed me into Rockler's one time, and sweet girl that she is, offered to buy me a new Saw Stop. I had to explain to her that the "old saw" in my shop was my Dad's pride and joy, and that it was staying. |

I have one of those portable 10" Ryobi's. it's only "okay" for the little use it sees around here. I wish it had two miter tracks instead of one, so I could make a sled, to make more accurate cuts consistently. |

I bought this $100 portable bench saw about 30 years ago and built a mobile cabinet with a router table on the right side. Nothing fancy but I have built everything from jewelry boxes to custom guitars using it. I have been thinking of getting back into making guitars and would probably invest in a larger cabinet saw now that I have a large garage.

I recenty bought a Rockwell Unisaw for $250 at an estate auction to replace my older craftsman contractor saw. I haven't messed with it much, but it is a beast with a 240V motor. Attached File |

My main saw is a Delta Unisaw with unifence. The table around it makes it a joy to use. Attached File I have a delta contractors saw with their standard fence that I need to verify with a tape measure. I also have a little delta bench top that is useful for certain things. |

The motor has different mounting points than most of "newer" unisaws. |

I have a Harbor Freight tile table saw. Not expecting this reply, eh! It was rated better than the Lowes tile table saw. I placed around 300sf of marble in our kitchen area with lots of specialty cuts. The marble was 15"x30" I like to do tile/rock and have used it on other projects at my cabin |

| Used to have a nice big Craftman table saw from the mid 80's. Gave it to our youngest son a few years back as he's into wood/furniture making projects sometimes. |

Anything less then a 3hp motor for 10" blade, then blade gets bogged down for standard speed cuts, and where you start to get kick back/blade defections. |

I have a General 350 cabinet saw that I bought new around 1992, from an advertisement in FWW. Way before the internet, sent the business that was somewhere OR or WA a check for $750 plus shipping, and it arrived at a freight depot a couple weeks later. Made in Canada, they were very highly rated back then. Has a Paralock saw fence. I don’t think they are in business anymore. But that is a pretty good fence. I think it’s got a 3.5 HP 220V single phase motor. It was built in an age when dust collection at least for home shop woodworkers was just a pipe dream. I did eventually add a 4” dust collection port to the base, and then built my own motor enclosure - had some sheet CP titanium laying around and riveted it together. I contacted General and there was no upgrade and the current at the time dust cover supposedly could not be retrofitted. Also have an overhead blade guard/dust collector hood. It’s not on there now as I have mostly been cutting box joint for bee hive boxes, and it’s just in the way for that operation. I added an extension table surface out of 1” MDF for a router table on the fence rails. It’s a good saw and so far has been no trouble - I have no interest in “upgrading” to a sawstop. And frankly would have a hard time justifying the price tag. The best safety gear is in your head anyways. |

Small contractors saw is just too small to try to cut a sheet of plywood. Dad had a Craftsman belt drive from around 1975 that I wanted, but just not enough room to store it. It killed me to let it go when we cleaned out the house. Especially when a diehard woodworker told me they have upgrades for them including a precision fence. |
