How many more miles do you think these tires have left in them? They are the original Dunlops that came with the bike, almost 4800 miles on them and a year old. They are not down to the wear indicators on the sides but obviously there is a flat spot in the center (hey, I'm not Valentino Rossi!). The edge of the tread valleys nearest the center are almost flush. The picture makes them look deeper than they are too, there's maybe 1/16" until the wear indicators are flush too. I'm thinking I will get new tires soon but wondering if it's a matter of I should stop riding until I get new tires or if I've got another 1000 miles worth left.

They’re fine to ride on until you decide on tires. That tire wear doesn’t look like hard canyon carving, maybe a more sport touring oriented tire would give you similar handling but longer wear. |

I will go ahead and replace them within the next month probably. While I obviously am not a hard core canyon carver I'm not really worried about tire longevity. I'd rather have a sticky performer that inspires confidence to become a better canyon carver.  I'm thinking Dunlop Q5S's or Bridgestone Battlax S23's. |
I don't even know why I made this thread when my OCD wasn't going to let me go long without getting new tires once it was on my mind.  I had some time today so I removed the wheels and took them to Cycle Gear and had Dunlop Q5S's installed. No more flat spot!  Tires sure have gotten expensive, $611 installed.  I got the bike for fun riding though I usually take it to work on the 2 days that I have to go in when the weather is nice. 38 miles round trip mostly highway so not much corner carving. Even when I go on weekend morning rides it's a lot of country roads with some good curves. I do try to hit fun roads as much as I can but there's only so much I can do, it's not a track bike.
