Our old rescue GSD mixed with only god knows what died 2.5 years ago. We’re now empty nesters and in a new home and we’re enjoying the “go somewhere” at the drop of a hat. Wife got a wild hare to take a cruise, done. Quick run to the Cherokee casino overnight? Done. But we were missing having a dog in our life. Yea, we have a dog like cat. A Maine Coon. But he’s still no dog. Wife went through a cancer scare and double mastectomy last few months and we decided we’re not getting any younger. She wanted something that will stay around 40-50 lbs, really fuzzy and hopefully a great personality. She was really pushing the issue of time to get a new dog. We went and picked up a new GSD pup for our son two weeks ago. That was all it took. Pushed her over the edge. Our daughter bought a golden doodle a couple years back. Always thought it was a stupid idea to pay that much for basically a mutt. Until we got to know her and saw how intelligent she is. So the wife was looking at golden doodles and realized they can get really large. Then we stumbled across the mini Bernedoodles. That was it. Hooked. She sent a message to the breeder Saturday morning and by 5 pm we had a new family member. She’s already learned her new name (Molly) and outdoor potty training is slowly advancing. She’s doing pretty good in her kennel since the breeders had begun that process. I’m retired and stay at home. Well, let’s just say I do now! I’m on day two with her alone. I forgot how much work goes into a new pup. She’s right at 12 weeks. Wish me luck! One more day alone with her and the wife can take over some. Meet Molly

My neighbors have a full size Bernedoodle, and she is a great dog, at least I think so. She is kind of a goofy, playful, loveable overgrown puppy...
| Take her everywhere with you. Get her socialized and used to new stimuli. Expose her to everything around you and she will roll with it at that age. Take to vet , just sit for a few minutes and leave , with positive reinforcement(treats) , play with her feet , pretend to cut nails , play with ears and same . If you are gonna get her groomed get her used to the sound of clippers. All these little things help avoid problems in the future - like paying the vet to clip nails with a muzzle on because she doesn't like her nails clipped. Anything else you can think of , do it now. |

Great advise. Already playing with her feet and nails. I swear, this dog poops more than I do. Took her outside many times today, pooped outside 5 times. Still discovered a hidden turd on the camouflaged throw rug in the kitchen and tracked through the house. Told the wife the rug is gone for a while. I seriously cannot see her tiny turds against the rug pattern. |
