Looking for a stylish watch for trip...Ive ran into several issues and 1 of which I dont understand... 1} Automatics and Solar - Seems everyone is going to Automatic movement...I tried a citizen solar and it simply didnt work for my lifestyle , it wouldnt hold charge, watch stayed in box majority of time. etc. I want simple Quartz movements and companies are getting away from these it seems. 2} Chronograph - exactly how many people need a stop watch in their life...majority of watches im finding have the 3 buttons, I dont need this but I like the styling and face of them. weird. Ok rant off.....lol |

Ok rant off.....lol On the budget side, buy a Casio Duro and add an Uncle bracelet for a great quartz watch that totals out at less than $120  Step up in price to the $500 range and Yema has some great quartz options.  In that same price range Momentum is another quartz heavy brand.  Getting closer to the $1000 price range, Marathon has some great quartz models.  I don't own one, but Grand Seiko has some wonderful quartz options if you really want to amp up the budget |

To be fair if you kept the solar on the window instead of the box it probably would run just fine. But there are a bunch of great quartz options too. You in to dive, dress, or field style watches? Obviously you aren't in to chronos. I think the only quartz i own is a Marathon Navigator no date. Pilot style watch. |

The Seiko you pictured is my edc work watch(construction/replaced my g-shock). Thing takes a beating and just works. I just adjusted the time on it after roughly 5 months and it was only off by about 35 seconds. But I believe the OP is looking for a straight up quartz as he keeps his watches stored away. |
| Yea..some nice watches posted..I have a Timex Field watch, but looking for classy, w/ quality leather band. The Citizens I had was perfect styling but the watch wouldnt keep time,,,id let it sit in window for 24hours, wear it and then put in box, less then week, it stopped moving and date was off, etc. so, no more solar or auto watches..I shouldnt have to work to keep a watch going, lol. |

I hear what you are saying OP. I have a pricey Omega Seamaster automatic. If I don't wear it every day it dies. And I do not want to wear it often. It's more in the jewelry catagory than watch. I wear it maybe 5 times a year and have to wind it and set it every time even on a winder. Battery is for the win.d |

I have solar watches from Citizen and Casio. When not in use, they sit in a box, in a draw where they get absolutely zero light and it hasn't been an issue at all. Depending on the watch, once they are fully charged they can go weeks or even months with no light and be fine. The Casio's will actually go into a power reserve mode after a few hours of no light and can last for months like that but as soon as they see light, they fire right back up to the correct time and date. As long as you leave the watch out (or wear it long enough) when you first get it to make sure its fully charged and then wear the watch at least once every week or 2 after that, where or how you store it should never be an issue? That's been my experience anyway. |

im just explaining my experience with CItizen Eco Drive. I let it charge in dirtect sunlight for an entire day,,wore the watch next day, put it in box after and week later it was dead,,its that simple. maybe defective watch , I dont know. Im looking at Timex Quartz, they have a few nice models that will work for my needs/style. |

I prefer quartz and really like solar quartz. I love my Citizen Eco-Drive. Years of great service. You must keep it in the light to charge. Get a new battery for yours and keep in the light for a few hours a day. I am wanting a Tag Formula 1 Solargraph. Even an F1 quartz would be sweet. Yema, quartz, is on my short list also. I thing automatics are cool. A $1600 Oris is 30 sec a day slow. My $800 bulova is 20 sec a day fast. LOL. Unless i can afford a Tudor, Omega or Rolex, i won't buy another automatic. I can see Auto for a dive watch. You dont have to break the seal to change a battery. Not for every day use. Just too complicated. |

I have quartz, solar quartz, and automatics. Auto is the only one that's fairly maintenance free as an occasional piece. It only takes a minute to wind it and set it, and you never have to worry about it being dead. Even if it runs too fast or slow, it won't be enough to notice if it's only worn for occasions. Solar quartz is easy too if you store it in the sun. Otherwise, occasional use stored in darkness is a deal breaker due to the need to charge it before use. Battery quartz will always surprise you when it's dead as you're pulling it out to use it on an occasion. Only way I'd consider one is if it used a larger 10-year battery. |

$60 watch and a $20 bracelet from Amazon. Keeps fantastic time, as quartz should - like a couple seconds a month or so. The only time I need to reset it is when I change time zones. |
