Summary is I have an old ROTH ira that a financial advisor set me up with a long time ago. I will be honest, I haven't really done anything with it. It has pretty much sat there for years and I haven't contributed to it. I recently noticed the company that is managing is (assetmark) is charging me several hundred dollars a year (over $400 last year) is fees. I think I want to create a new ROTH ira and roll it over and start managing it myself. Watching youtube videos seems these three are always mentioned as the best places Fidelity Charles Schwaub Vanguard I want to try to manage it myself with ETFs. I am seeing which one you guys use and recommend to help me decide. I would start contributing to this Roth IRA account again slowly as I can afford it once I get it setup and the money rolled over from the old management account. In the meantime I will keep doing research and watch youtube videos regarding the subject. Thanks, Mav |
| I’m pretty far from an expert but my Roth IRA is with Fidelity and I have no complaints. I like the app. Couple things I don’t like but overall it’s positive. |

I have accounts at both Fidelity and Vanguard. There are things I like and dislike about both of them but the nod would go to Fidelity, barely. Both have essentially the same in-house products with Vanguard having slightly lower expenses. I like Vanguard’s account display format more than Fidelity’s, but Vanguard’s trade is execution “routine” is a) ridiculously cumbersome (hence the term routine) and b) buggy/slow; very slow at times. I don’t use them much, but Fidelity’s CS is fast; Vanguard usually incurs a significant wait and hours of operation are shorter. |
I wanted a mission, and for my sins, they gave me one.

| I recently found I was in the same boat using Edward Jones. Lots of fees. I called and spoke with a fidelity representative and they took care of beginning the transfer process. It was free to switch over to Fidelity. I had to pay a fee for leaving EJ. Fidelity paid it back to me. I have no fees as I manage it myself and have put myself into fairly low expense ratio funds. Fidelity also has access to zero expense funds which I use one of as well. Other than taxes all of the money I put into my Roth is going directly into growing in the future. Very happy with the experience so far. |

I don’t actively trade. I check in once in a while to make sure the funds I selected are performing as hoped. I have both Fidelity and Vanguard. I can’t say I prefer one over the other, but all of my rollovers went to Vanguard to get admiral shares. I don’t honestly know if Fidelity offers an equivalent. |

OP my vote would be for Fidelity. I had an old IRA with some little outfit that denied every attempt to transfer I attempted over the course of 6 months. Called Fidelity CS and they handled everything in a few weeks. Originally Posted By thedreamer124: I recently found I was in the same boat using Edward Jones. Lots of fees. It’s sick that so many people pay their fees for what is basically passive index investing (for most of their clients) that’s simple to DIY. What’s worse is that they’ll steer you into high fee funds because they get kickbacks from the funds. Attached File They’ve been sued for it before but they still do it. They just hide it in the fine print now that most people don’t read. |

Thanks everyone for your positive feedback. Sounds like Fidelity is the one to go with, so I will go forward and open an account online with them and work on rolling that Roth IRA over. I will probably open a new thread asking for suggestions on what ETFs through Fidelity everyone likes or I should look at, but will close this one up for now. Thanks again guys! |
