How about a priceless, over 100 years old, heirloom violin -- used to be my grandmother's back around 1913, 1914, etc... when she was a concert violinist in NY City. She gave it to me back in the 70's when she was way too old, arthritic, and could no longer play. I approached it like a backwards 4 string guitar without frets: G, D, A, E. I recently ...very carefully... changed the strings - one string at a time. Following the advice from the music store, you go "top - down" from the scroll as it's easier to do. Change the "A", change the "D", change the high "E" into the fine tuner, and lastly, the "G". Inside the case, under the neck, is her diary of all her concert programs, newspaper reviews, etc... The bow (top) is from the 50's (original long gone). The other bow (bottom) is a gift from my daughter back maybe 10 years ago... I can play it, but I'm no philharmonic orchestra musician! One false move with the bow, and the violin will sound like two stray cats fighting in an alley! LOL! Anyone else play violin - or try to play one?

That is really cool. Arguably the hardest of the stringed instruments as the timbre really makes mistakes stand out. We have my great grandfather's old fiddle but it was an Irishman's folk instrument so not very high quality to begin with though we still did have my luthier go through it when it was passed down. |

Very cool. Thanks. It’s a copy of a violin built in 1742 that recently sold for 6 million. -Wiki Kinda like all the modern pre-war Martin D-45’s being built now. |
