Youtube video just over 21 minutes long: Paratrooper kills german soldier and returns wedding photos to his family after 68 years It's put together by a French history researcher who focuses on Southern France during WWII. (That was unoccupied France.) He tells the story of the American Officer killing a German NCO and while searching his body for the typical items, he came across the NCO's wedding pictures. The rest of the story is about finding out who the NCO was and returning copies of the photos. It's worth the 21 minutes!!!! |

Thanks for sharing that. My wife is friends with an older German woman, her father was killed during the war. Situations such as this played out 10,000's of times in WW2 and millions of times throughout history. It is interesting to put faces and stories of combatants together. It humanizes them and we are able to understand each man was doing what he had to in order to protect his fellow soldiers and avoid being killed. |

He also finds a lot of MIA soldiers from all sides through his research. Very impressed with his ability to remove himself from the story instead of making himself part of the story. I would be very interested if he did similar research with Occupied France, but I'm old and may not be around! |

Before I got out, I was responsible for 45 clowns, and I was at most three years older than they were, but I loved them like brothers even when I wanted to choke a couple of them. I'd kill for them, live for them, commit heinous crimes for them. Hard to explain why to people outside of this experience and even harder when they find out you only are around each other for maybe one year, two years, or three years at the most. But, they're part of your life forever. |
