I've had a VR headset for a few years now, I think I got my Rift S back in 2018-2019 I think? Upgraded to a HP Reverb G2 and got heavily into flight sims and virtual air wing milsimming with DCS for a while, then kind of got disinterested. I recently dusted the ol girl off and played around with VTOL VR and finally tried Ghosts of Tabor. I really like Tabor as its Tarkov similar but not as serious. I also loved Half Life Alyx but have never completed an entire playthrough, I need to do that. I'm toying with the idea of maybe upgrading to a Meta Quest 3 and looking for some feedback and experiences. As much as I enjoy Tabor, the visuals are kind of meh, my system is a bit dated but I still run every non VR game I have at maxed out settings. My specs are a ryzen 7 5800X 16 core 4.7 GHz, 32gb DDR5 ram, and a Zotac 3080Ti I like the standalone ability but also the option to run SteamVR through apps or a link cable. Help me Pro/Con this out |

For the price, right now, the Quest 3 is probably the best headset on the market. Do not get the Quest 3S, get the regular 3. The Quest 3 uses advanced pancake lenses, whereas the 3S uses the Fresnel ones, which suck. I have the 512gb version, and it runs most games directly off of the headset itself just fine. Anything I want to stream from my PC via SteamVR it runs flawlessly, but some games are just too bandwidth heavy and need to be used with a cable. I enjoy it, I've played Half Life, Elite Dangerous, Into the Radius 1 and 2, No Mans Sky, Minecraft (that was trippy), Blade and Sorcery, all ran great, even Blade and Sorcery with heavy mods. I can only play for a bit though, VR gives me a major headache. My favorite game: Elite Dangerous. Nothing else compares to the feeling it gives you. That all said, standalone requires either installing games through various means, or buying them from the quest shop. You can't just install a game from steam onto the headset, you can only install it from the shop or from other... ways. Not all games are in the shop either, as some are Steam exclusive, etc. etc. ETA: The graphics on Tabor aren't going to be any different, really, than what you currently have on your headset. It's not the most hi-fidelity game out there. The Quest 3 will look more clear and have less eye strain, and possibly better performance, but the graphics should basically look the same. The Quest 3 does have higher per eye resolution, so it might look somewhat better, but honestly it will be hard to tell in something like Tabor. |

As far as Tabor, I see videos on youtube a lot that seem to have a lot better graphics, so I figured an ungraded headset would come with better visuals. |

The wire on my Reverb really doesn't bother me, and I mostly prefer to play seated. Although with a wireless setup, perhaps that would change. As stated, you can play most games wirelessly via steamvr. Unless you are way away from the wifi point, or the game is just that intensive. I haven't had an issue with it, but I do remember Blade and Sorcery having some issues over wifi. |

Well I ended up with a Quest 3. It got delivered today and i've been able to play around with it a little bit. It came with 3 months of their game subscription service so I'll play around with that a bit. So far, it's much more user friendly than Steam VR/WMR. Wireless is nice. I had some issues trying to get Steam Link to work, but after some googling and another $25, I ended up with Virtual Desktop and was about to play Tabor for a little bit before the kids got home. I just messed around in the bunker but I can tell already everything is much sharper, better graphics, etc. We'll see how it holds up in a raid, I only do PVE right now but so far, I'm impressed. I was surprised how small the Quest 3 was compared to my Reverb. The reviews I read about the stock strap not being very comfortable are accurate, I do not like it at all, and the facial interface is kinda cruddy. I'll be upgrading those things in short order. I ordered the K4 Battery boost strap from KIWI after going over some reviews. I'll have to look into some better face piece options as well. |

I had a Kiwi facial interface on my Q2 and liked it so much that I ordered one for the Q3 about a week before I bought one. It's the V3 interface and I like it a lot. |

| I have a pimax super, not recommending you get that as it sounds like you're more casual, but if you played dcs in the past, the new updates with nvdia have improved performance a good bit. Might be worth installing dcs and messing around a bit to see if it looks any nicer for you. |

I have a meta quest 3 Most of the time I play some of the standalone games it's been great. Runs well looks good. I've used it on steam VR and with a link cable as well. It's a little heavy sitting with it for a while. I don't have much other vr experience so can't say how it compares but it's definitely a headset I recommend. |

I have the bobovr head strap with the batterys. It helps it sit a lot better of your forehead and the pads are pretty cushie. Id definitely recommend a better head strap for the quest. I also got some like rubber sleeve things for the controllers with a strap over the back of the hand. Helps a lot with throwing granades

Quest 3 is awesome, both standalone and used with a PC. If streaming wireless, Virtual Desktop is a must! Check out ForefrontVR https://www.meta.com/experiences/forefront/28816918137899319/ It's like Battlefield 4, super fun, great community, and just a blast to play. I have it on both Steam and the Meta Store for standalone, both are great just very slight graphics differences. Most of the time I just play standalone so as not to go to the trouble of firing up the PC. Has Cross-play and linked accounts. Also check out Into the Radius, and ITR2. Both very good VR Shooters, a lot like Stalker. |

It balances the Quest on your head nicely. I also put Kiwi controller grips on my controllers. They're awesome. |

I'm also interested in a gunstock, but I'm curious how a stock would work with a game like Tabor, where you regularly have to work with your hands in inventory, picking up items, etc. Do the controllers go in an out of the stock quickly/easily? |

I got some really bad head pain last night after about 45 minutes of playing Tabor, but I'm hoping the KIWI strap will be more comfortable and adjustable. On my second pimax headset have the light and super. They are a horrible company lol. In those 2 headset I have had 8 open tickets with them, only 2 were for problems with the actual headset though. That being said, I love the super, turning on eye tracking and super smoothing had me go from 30 fps with medium settings to 90 with ultra settings. It just works too, no messing around with steam or other software. That will probably only last until the next update to dcs, or pimax or nvdia but right now it's awesome. |

Sometimes I end up reading gaming resources like https://icasino-reviews.co.nz/no-deposit-casino-bonus-nz/bonus-codes/ to learn about different platform features, bonus structures, and game libraries. Whether it's VR, RPGs, simulators, or casino style games, I just enjoy trying different types of gaming experiences. As always, gambling should be approached responsibly and only through licensed 18+ operators where permitted. Yeah, I'd definitely go Quest 3 over the 3S. Every person I've talked to who upgraded says the lenses alone make a huge difference. |

I own a couple original Q3 over the Q3s, just for the better lenses. Everything we do is standalone. Me and my son play coop shooters, pve mostly but some pvp. The current lineup is "tactical assault" which is actually amazing if you give it a shot and get past the graphics, which are purposefully terrible. It's definitely very much a milsim type, very fast time to kill. Many many weapons and attachments and breaching gear etc etc.... Currently tho contractors exfilzone pve with the boy has been taking up too much of our time... wayyyyy too addicting. We've had ghosts of Tabor for years and I just could never get into how unituitive some of it is and how it's somewhat half assed imo. Exfilzone is fking deeeeep. There's a lot to it, with PLENTY of tasks through the merchants or whatever you call them and best of all the game plays super clean! Another addicting and motivating thing is the gunsmith bench... there's a ton of different builds you can create. I've been on an AR clone kick for a while so creating URGI type builds and DD type builds. For some reason no m4 kac quad rails tho which is sad. Past honorable mentions tho is Pavlov shack, which is another one that plays just so clean. ITR1 which plays very clean and is very addicting mission wise. ITR2 plays janky and it's hard to put up with giving me a headache, my son wants to put up with it but I can't. Plus the originals simplicity was nice and hard to beat. Forefront is great, plays clean, but they may need to add more stuff.... the weapons manipulation is very basic. The AR15 for example, maybe you can drop the mag but zero other controls like bolt drop and everything else... honestly from what I can remember, the dang port door isn't even modeled open. |

I would wait until Steam Frame is released and how reviews of it place it in the market. Not saying to get it, but see where it lands before deciding. ETA: Derp, old thread is old. Still current day I think worth waiting over jumping on the Quest 3, which still might be the easiest choice. |
| This stream frame is standalone eh? I'm gonna keep an eye on this.... no real issues with the Q3, but meta has been getting shitty, the last update changed the whole user interface for the worse. But if the stream frame is an upgrade, I may go for it when it finally releases, as long as I can still play my meta games or at least be cross platform with my son. |
