I am putting together a PC to run CAD software to prepare artwork for an invention I am filing patents for. I also intend to use the resulting mechanical drawings to fabricate the parts for a prototype. I am 100% P&T. I am wondering if there is any way the VA can assist me financially in this venture. Do I have to incorporate as a small business before I can request assistance? Any input would be appreciated. |

See if the local community college has CAD classes and sometimes firms like Easter Seals covered local classes for Veterans. Depending on the school or program they may have significant discounts for equipment. Some of the larger firms have grants and incubators. AWS, Dell, etc all have programs. Other firms have mentorship’s where you can get access to experts in your field or interest as well as seed money. |

At one point in my career - for about 6 years - I was a design engineer and was doing CADAM and later CATIA for 8 to 12 hours a day. But that was running on a mainframe - a PC setup will be a little different. There are tons of Youtube tutorials for the software I will be running, I just need to put in the time to learn. I might look into a small business loan for when I get into the fabrication stage. |
