No matter what blades I use I average 2 shaves at best at worst 5 passes before they have to be tossed. I have sensitive skin so the super-sharp blades are out. Facial hair is extremely coarse so blades get destroyed in a hurry. Years ago I bought a shit-ton of Wikinson Sword blades at Walmart and Derby Extra blades at Sally Beauty Supply. Given I only shave twice/week I'm using them up and using them once. Shaves are pretty good that way. Later this summer when they're gone, they're gone and from here on out it's Voskhod or similar. |

I'm in the same boat as you. Tried the Sword, and all the Darbies, and probably 20 others. You can order a sample pack of different blades off of Amazon or Ebay to try 20+ different blades. I didnt like the Vaskhod either. The absolute BEST I have found are the Astra Superior Platinum, and the Feather New Hi-Stainless. ALL of the other brands and styles I get 1-2 shaves out of them, but with these 2 I get 4-5 shaves. I have sensitive skin and get horrifying razor burn, but not with the Astra and Feather blades. I shave every 2 days, and love it now. I do use a pre-shave cream, and an alum block after before applying post shave balm. |

DE blades can be very razor specific (i.e. a blade that might not work well in one razor might perform exquisitely in a different razor) especially at the extremes, like a mild razor with a really sharp blade or a aggressive razor with a smooth blade. It might be worthwhile to save a few DE blades just to try out if you ever decide to get a different razor. Also, as you become more proficient with a razor (map your face and get the right direction for the right pass, learning how to shave without so many passes that you get irritation, getting the angle, pressure, stroking motion, etc... just right) some of the DE blades that weren't that great might improve to the point that they work better than the blade that you settled on as the best when you first started. Those Walmart Wilkies were the blades that compelled me to start searching for better DE blades. I was happy with the Personna blades that Walmart sold but then they replaced them with Wilkinson Sword. Those Wilkinson Swords were so rough it felt like they're trying to pull my hair out instead of cut it. I had to get something better and then my Van Der Hagen boar brush fell apart (the center of the knot plug fell out leaving just a ring of hair around the outside) so I decided to get a better brush, some bulk blades and some better soap (I was using Van Der Hagen soap at the time) while I was at it. That's when I fell down the the rabbit hole and went from saving money by traditional shaving and buying supplies as I needed them to stocking up on supplies that would take years to use and buying a variety of better hardware. |

I'll have to try that as excuse for another gun. "I have to get another rifle because I have a bunch of ammo that the rifles I have don't shoot well with. If I get another rifle the craptastic ammo I have might group better in it."  Do you think it would work?
