Anybody else following the development of the Miniature Skirmish game Trench Crusade? Trench Crusade is a tabletop wargame set in a blasphemously alternate WW1 era created by artist Mike Franchina (Diablo 2r/3/4, Path of Exile 2, Magic: The Gathering) with rules by acclaimed game designer Tuomas Pirinen (Mordheim, Warhammer 6th edition) and brought to life by James Sherriff (28 mag, Ian Miller's Grim Tarock) and some of the greatest creative talents in wargaming. Its very grimdark so if you are a fan of 40k you will probably like a lot of this. Trench Crusade is a skirmish-scale tabletop miniature game that will plunge players deep into a horrifying alternate timeline. During the Crusades a heretical band of Templars dared defy the Almighty. Casting aside their sacred vows they unleashed the forces of Hell upon the Earth. Over 800 years later, in the Year of Our Lord 1914, this brutal, merciless war between the forces of Heaven and Hell rages on. This is not merely a fight for survival it is a cataclysmic struggle that will decide the very fate of humanity's soul. They have a kickstarter and rules are available for free download. Rules1.52 Rules are pretty tight already and their minis look good plus they are mini agnostic and encourage kitbashing and 3d printing.   |

Sad to see this didn't get any traction. I just started going into the fluff and lore. Personally, it's not for me. The terrain setups look amazing but a lot of work to play in a more theatre-esque setting. I'm also over the edge lord styling of WH40K, I really don't want to see more of that. It was really disappointing to see so many direct analogues to 40K stuff in not only the lore, but also in the figures/units. I'm really hoping that One Page Rules starts more lore stuff and that the gaming community picks it up. |
