I'll start with the fact that I don't wear a suit every day, maybe 8-10x/year. I've attended two funerals in the past year that had graveside services in the rain and an umbrella didn't cut it. I'm looking for something to wear when I have a suit on. Traditional trench coat? I like the classic look, but I don't want to come across as a flasher or 50's detective wannabe. If I do go with a traditional trench coat, can a tailor bring in the sides because the one I owned 25 years ago fit my shoulders well, but felt way too baggy on me. Or any other suggestions? I'm in my mid-50's if that matters. And what color? My suits are navy blue and dark grey/charcoal. Thanks in advance. ETA, I'm 6'3", 240ish lbs with broad shoulders. Not sure what would look best on me. I prefer the classic style over trendy because I don't want to buy another one in 5-10 years. |

511 Rain Coat I’ve spent time in the rain there is a huge difference between most of the light weight stuff and this but your pant legs still get wet. The other route that works is a gortex jacket and waterproof motorcycle over - pants Search Gortex Jacket at Cabellas https://a.co/d/4I9pPJH. Hat https://a.co/d/29RVK90. Jacket (North Face) https://a.co/d/6iKAVeP. Over Pants PS baggy rather than tailored is more breathable if it’s hot out you won’t perspire as much but real Gortex is breathable plus waterproof. What makes most cheap rainngear miserable is it becomes a sauna. |

Burberry is charging more for a trench coat than I paid for my first car! However, per above, London Fog is good. If you wear a Trench, always tighten the belt, otherwise it looks goofy. Just found this great sale. Link won't post; search Macy's site! I generally prefer a Macintosh style rain coat because you can leave it open without looking messy. And open means you can draw faster. Burberry trench coats used to have cool pass through pockets so you could access your suit pockets (and pistol ;-) ) without unbelting and unbuttoning! |

Waaaaay late to the party, but the answer is always Burberry if belted... vintage Burberry probably saves you 80% and gets you a better product. Lots of folks remove the pin from the belt buckle so it's easier to use. Lots of folks use the belt behind the coat to essentially cinch in in to a slimmer silhouette without using the belt. As previously mentioned... pass through pockets. WW1 history. Etc etc... Flashers always tended to go for a belt less model... I'm sure the belt hindered their chosen use. Aquascutum would have been your Burberry equivalent back in the day for an unbelted version (flasher coat). Though they did also produce a belted version, and I believe predated Burberry in WW1 use. |

I forgot about Aquascutum. So I went to their site. No classic Trench. But I have an Invertere that I've had for many years which I cherish. I have kept it carefully since I heard, sadly, that they closed their doors in the 1980's. But I just googled 'em and they are back! Not a lot of info, and probably unaffordable! |
