I've been to both many times over the past 50 years. Every time these places come up, I hear something similar. You gotta eat there if you're in the area, and they're overrated and overpriced. Some say it's just part of the experience, even if it is overrated and overpriced. We're going to Frankenmuth in a week or two. I might check one of them out. |

No, but it's quite good, done right, and saves you the drive down South.  For authentic Asian food there's a big enclave in Madison Heights. Great noodles at Ima and I need to go to Edamame again. I'll check it out. I'll be somewhere like Royal Oak for a day this week. I think something from this thread is close. As for saving the drive- I go anyway. Every summer I drive to Texas and Tennessee to visit friends and family. I usually stop in Memphis or KC along the way. |

And McAuliffes...........hit a good sale and you'll laugh all the way home. I just picked up a bunch of Dearborn bratwurst for .99 cents a pound and dearborn makes excellent meat products. Eggs were .89 a dozen and butter 2 pounds for $5 last time I was in. Their made on site beef sticks and Jerky are great and they use their own smoker. [I tend to order 5 pounds of BBQ jerky at a time and then pick it up when it's ready, it sells out FAST. ] |

It’s super close, and you can get amazing Asian and Mexican (Taco Tienda is great) there. There’s also the Polish-American club in (or right around) Mad Hts if you’re in for that. Really good stuff (though it’s not at the level of some other cuisines). If you get to the East side there are some Lebanese places that are great too. Ike’s in Sterling Heights is good stuff. As for the drive I was just saying when you get a hankering for BBQ rather than drive 6+ hours… there are some solid places here.  |

It’s been a bit (pre pandemic) since I went to the Frankenmuth Brewery but that place had good burgers and excellent beer every time I went. |

If you do find time for lunch there’s a decent new deli called Dedo’s on University drive I just tried. Also do not sleep on Bad Brad’s just north of Great Lakes Crossing. I know Hop Cat is a smallish chain but they have pretty good food (along with a lot of beer), and just opened a location up at GLC. If you drive about 10 miles further North you can check out the Union joints in Clarkston. Very good food there.
