While I'm far from ecstatic about the Iran war handling, I do agree that it needed to be done. I'd rather it have been done *after* midterms, but I strongly suspect that there is good intel that they were close to assembling a nuclear weapon and we were rushed as a result. Everything else? Trump is Trump. I take him seriously but almost never literally, and start with the assumption that if it pisses off the left it has a good chance of being a distraction/feint anyhow. In my opinion, Trump's legacy isn't really knowable until Iran is resolved. I think he's going to end up coming out of this smelling like a rose overall, it's just going to take more time and economic pain than expected. Gun rights are going great. Ukraine is looking up. Our hemisphere is all but wrapped up with a bow on it. China is flirting with serious economic issues, and aren't in a strong position to handle it. The world is changing, and so is our role in it. Trump is doing an excellent job in positioning us to have a chokehold on the energy economy, and forcing Europe to take ownership of their own defense. Hell, we're making the Saudis handle their house, too. In short, a lot of things aren't where I wish they were, but we're on the right track for the first time in my adult life. Importantly, even if I disagreed with his aims, in the middle of it is not the time to change course. We must see this through, regardless of whatever rise happens. The last thing we want is an emboldened Iran that's seen as the regional power. It's worth a lot of expensive gas to prevent that. |
