So, I mentioned I've done some artwork- gave most of it away, actually sold a few pieces ( a fool and his money...), and kept a bit. Don't think I was every really good at it, but it was fun. Hey John. Felt like checking in. Had a couple beers with a couple friends after work. Sitting here now sipping on some Scotch and reflecting. Attached File It's after midnight. I can hear my daughter banging and thumping, packing things up. She's moving out this weekend. She and her mom are going into an apartment together, over near the college that they've both enrolled at. We rarely see eye to eye, my daughter and I. She's very persnickety in her habits, her likes and dislikes. She doesn't much care for who I am - she'd rather have me be who she wants me to be. We were having an argument once, not too terrible long ago, and she yelled out, "Why can't you be a normal dad, like Pastor Tony?!!!" My response was, "Well, why can't you accept me for who I am rather than who you wish I was?" Went over just about as well as you would expect. I'm realizing that as much as we don't get along, and as much as she and I disagree on just about everything, I'm gonna miss her. I'm gonna miss making breakfast on those lazy Sunday mornings. I'm gonna miss texting her before I leave work asking if she needs me to stop off and bring her anything. I'm even gonna miss how she rambles on and on for most of an hours without really saying anything. I know in my heart that it's a step in the right direction for her. For the first time in her life, she'll be responsible for paying her share of the rent and utilities. She'll be responsible for buying her own groceries and supplies. Sure, she'll be living with her mom, so she won't be entirely on her own, but it's a step in that direction. I'll be worried about her. Hell, I'll probably always worry about her. I wonder how mama birds ever get up the nerve to push their babies out of the nest? Maybe this is supposed to teach me that it's okay to let go. That's how I'm gonna take it, anyway. Yes, I realize that I need to clean off my desk. Tomorrow's another day. Hope you're feeling okay. |

Kept that appointment the other day with primary. Told him everything that has transpired since he ordered MRI. Held nothing back. The "Attacks", the pain Monday, the emotion.
nothing, really he can do. And yeah, he was late for next appt- asked him to apologize on my behalf. Made plans for add'l appt in a few weeks. We had an agreement we would ignore this whole thing this weekend, including this thread- just live as if nothing was happening for a few days. Then, early yesterday afternoon the phone lit up- was the clinic I'd just been to. Appointment has been put off until Oct 11. Just wow. How is it you confirm a guy is dying, then basically kick him to the curb? Primary could see it. Radiologist confirmed it. Neurologist confirmed, then went on how it's even worse than thought, nothing from the oncologist until he's got everything, including ct scan middle Sept. And no offer of any treatment (maybe they know I'm likely to refuse), except palliative (and no call from them yet). Maybe I should stop with the Mr Nice Guy thing. So got a lot to think about, when I wasn't supposed to be thinking at all..... Major was out- brought along son-in-law, to check out more guns for sale, and nobody thought to bring any $! Oh well, see 'em on Monday. Actually had a nice time until demoing a Mauser- Cleared chamber, brought it to my shoulder, and realized I couldn't see anything but a blur. Kind of lost it for a bit, brought it all to the front- and oh well, that's why this stuff is for sale anyway. See some offers have been made, some questions asked, so will answer as best I can.

Checking in again. Your art is impressive to say the least. I've never enjoyed art in the least, in high school art classes I rarely gave any of the "greatest of all time" paintings a second glance. I just don't see what others do I guess. Doesn't mean I don't have a huge respect for the talent, I just find it completely uninteresting. But your pieces, especially the cow boy ones really are incredible.
The pictures of the wild horses are really neat. I can't wait to see them for myself. I had no idea there were wild horses in NM. |

I'm another that rarely goes into Team, and never saw this thread before. It was another dying man that brought me to first register on this site to share what little words I had to offer at the time. Add me to the list of those carrying you in their thoughts and prayers. As before, I have precious little to offer, but a prayer to the God of all creation that He bring some comfort and strength to you and your wife & family. All of life is lived one step at a time, but there are times when that fact is much more distant. Then there are times when the only way to make it another day is just that - one step after another. The perception of time changes so much, depending on your circumstances, does it not? I'll never meet you in person, but as of now, you are close to my heart. God bless and keep John and Karla. |

Somehow I think getting tasked to get you diving would be an easy job. 
Monday. Thought a few days “away” would be a help. It wasn’t. This is always there, and doing “nothing” gives too much time to feel it, think about it. So will be good to get back to work. Tasks are more difficult now, and there’s a lot of interruptions if you’re having one of those talks.. But the day goes quickly, no time to feel sorry for yourself. Never thought I’d be looking forward to Monday, but it’s here, and I can’t wait. Enjoy yours. John |

There are reports that marijuana can help relieve neuropathic pain.
I use it sometimes for phantom pain so I can sleep. I could get medicine from the doctor but that stuff is worse than pot. You mentioned once your head was buzzy and you didn't sleep well. |

I'm many of those 11k hits this thread has and like many wondering what I can say. I know you say that we can't post something wrong, but I'm pretty sure I could somehow find a way to do just that. Hopefully this isn't it. I've been reflecting more of late because of this thread as well as some personal things going on in my life and have been looking for "something good to happen today." Looking back at today it wasn't mowing the lawn after work in 95° heat, nor was it replacing the garbage disposal. But I did get up early this morning to watch the International Space Station fly overhead. I wasn't anything spectacular like watching the Shuttle re-enter, but it's quite amazing in many respects. Three or four people flying 250 miles up at 17500 MPH and I have the ability to predict exact when and where to look. If you're looking for something good to happen today, look no further than this thread. You're an inspiration to many more folks than you think. I wish I had the artistic talent you have, not to mention the grace,dignity, and humor you've displayed throughout this thread.
