I smelled fall in the air last Sunday. I like fall, but it's depressing to know summer is over and winter is around the corner. Then everything is bleak and baren until May of next year.  I also got blue balled on the storms and rain I was promised. Couldn't explore the drains because it's supposed to rain, couldn't get action shots because it didn't rain enough. No daytime storms to get storm-in-the-woods video either. Haven't had anything decent since the 4th of July. It's irritating. |

Uggg. Sorry, can’t stand this time of year. It always seems so commercial. Don’t mean to be a bummer about it. Plus, going to TX, taking care of his 96 year old mother, every year, trying to find something she will eat for Thanksgiving and Christmas. FIL died on Christmas Day…..a day of mourning….all day long…all week long….it’s been over 15 years, every year the same thing. Sigh. We don’t decorate, we aren’t here, why bother? Just one more thing for me to have to do. Lots of work for me, in the yard and preparing for the winter gardens, harvesting this year’s produce, prepping the garden, shovel full by shovel full, to turn the soil, while removing the weeds. Our growing season is November through May. Summer temps around 110°+, fries everything from June through September to early October. |

I’m looking forward to the stadium size pile of leaves and sticks that I’ll have to clean up once my stupid trees begin vomiting their cargo all over my otherwise pristine yard. If I ever build again, the first order of business will be to clear cut a 100 yard circle around my house with a trench to push the leaves in before soaking them with diesel and tossing in a road flare. Mostly that, and hot apple cider. But mostly that…. |

One year when I was a kid, probably about eight years old, so i the mid 1970s it was in the 80s on Christmas Eve, with violent, summer type thunderstorms. I can remember going to my grandmother's house next door in shorts and no shirt that day. Late that night the bottom dropped out and it was in the low 40s for the high. We have wild temperature swings, but that was wild. |

I was just driving through Grover, NC last night and that’s literally right on the state line. If you trip and fall you land in SC. This storm coming through is supposed to bring some cooler weather. Like you said, Wednesday and Thursday this week it’s supposed to start feeling like fall. I can’t wait! I agree about the mosquitoes. I’ve put off outside landscaping projects till it’s cold because they’re insufferable this year. I typically love being outside all year round; I don’t mind sweating, but sweaty AND itchy is no bueno. You’re a little bit older than me, but I too remember a couple Christmas’s being muggy and warm. Like, come on weather, we’re supposed to be sipping hot chocolate under a blanket, not making margaritas and wearing flip flops. |

It has been Fall here for a while now. Not temp wise, but the wife has gone hard into decorating for it. She gets such joy from decorating, I let her do what she wants, within reason. |

Even while it’s falling, and all you hear is that light, crisp “ssssssss” as the snow hits other snow. I like that first snow. Then it can piss off.
