…is to switch to the extra set of regs I brought. Have a spare. Two is one, one is none.   Virtually identical to the other set. I am at the Gray Quarry near Johnson City today. I have the place to myself. 99 percent certain it’s the spool on the SPG. This is my solo setup. My safety bottle/buddy is clipped off at 15 feet. I don’t bring it out till the last dive. One dive down, two to go. 75 degrees with no thermocline. They have a massive aerator that mixes everything. |

I have a Rubbermaid-style tote with all my "extra" parts, purchased spares, tools, o-ring sets, O2 compatible lube, etc. Also took a set of doubles regs as a backup in case I had issues with my sidemount regs during my recent AN/DP class... some of these places have no surface support within literally an hour or more drive so you don't have much choice but to overpack

I have a sack full of new spools. And a bag of 003 hard o-rings and old spools that need a white vinegar bath that I can make more with when I find the time some winters day. |

We were just there on Saturday. Great local spot and vis was really good for how crowded it was on the surface. Funny enough, everytime we've been and the crowd has been high you still don't see many people once you get under the surface. I think it's because there are enough "sites" to visit that you rarely cross paths. The owners are looking for a helicopter to add as well. Smoky Mountain Divers is the closest shop (about 8 minutes from the site) and they have some good people there. $12 Nitrox fills, or $8 for air. I love the fact that this is NOT a remote site, but it sure feels secluded once you get down into the quarry. Very easy to access from I-26. |

I heard Wayne was looking for a helicopter. I spent five hours total down. Must have lapped that thing a bajillion times. Saw the paddlefish several times. They were hanging between 20 and 40 feet doing circuits between the houseboat and bus. I accidentally came in about 15 feet over top of one, it was at around 35 feet. It seemed more freaked about that than one of my futile attempts to get close on purpose. Seventy five on the top and seventy four below 55 feet. What a brutal thermocline! I am almost afraid to try it on the weekend again. I told someone if I hit the Powerball, I am going to make a flat spot to unload so you aren’t on an incline. I got there at 7:00 am and was in the water at 7:59. Had the place to myself for the first two dives, actually ended up doing four. Someone finally showed around ten and it was busy when I left. Did four tanks and sucked half an 80 I hang at 15 feet on the end of the pier. Those fucking geese have got to go, they are nutrient enriching the water and that’s not going to do good things for the Vis. A lot of the people are students and tend to stay around the platforms. I over dress a bit so I can hang out deep as long as my NDL will permit. I tend to do a deep lap and then corkscrew my way up to 15 feet over a couple of laps. Gives me a super-gradual ascent profile. |
