5 day's worth of beard growth. Cold water shave Merkur 34C HD Yaqi Segrada Familia (synthetic) Godrej Sensitive tubed cream (India) Derby Extra blade (new)  Derby Extras are another brand of blade I won't buy again. ROUGH. But I stuck with it and 3 passes later a beautiful baby butt smooth shave no nicks, cuts, or weepers. Only a tiny bit of irritation. Finished with alum block and Skin Bracer. The saving grace here was the Godrej cream. Very slick. |

By the time I get done shaving my head, most DE blades are ready to go in the trash. Then again, so are most carts (and most cheap disposables it takes two of them for one use), which cost about 100x as much per shave. The exceptions I’ve found so far are Gillette Platinum, Gillette Nacets, and Feather Stainless. And sometimes the Israeli personna platinums, though the box of 100 I bought is really inconsistent. Some blades are great and last 3 shaves, others are ready for the blade bank after a single use. I thought the derby’s I’ve tried were fine, but I have to do a full three passes instead of my preferred two pass. Normally I skip with the grain and start with across or even against the grain, but that results in a very tuggy and uncomfortable shave with some of the blades I’ve tried. |

OK - I knew I had a combination that worked with the Derby Extras. Today's head/face shave was a late 40s/early 50s (I think) gold Tech with Derby Extras. For me it's the perfect combination of gentle and sharp. It was used with white jar Proraso followed by an alum block and Clubman. |
