Yes, Colt-sporter and I had the whole lake ....BUT......
First time it went perfect, however the second time (for the camera) had some float damage. But, it did look cool for the photos. Before anyone asks, it will maintain the climb angle seen in the last photo. |

Radial Rocket This one is being built a few hangars down from me at 77T. M14p 400hp. It was converted from air to electric start. A local guy is sewing the leather interior and yes it has a smoke system. It has a wet wing so when you mate the wing half's together it better be right. A very slow build!!! He could easily build an RV in half the time! |

I have some fond memories of flying up to Oshkosh on a hot July morning full of the two of us, and a weeks worth of camping gear and food stuffed in the back. I think we hit corn tassels at the end of our 1900ft strip. 
And we had to fly to a nearby airport with a long runway to get topped off with fuel. If you got enough runway, she would always stagger up into the air. |

We didn't have thresholds until a knucklehead overshot the runway in 1998 and dug trenches all the way to the trees... 
Shoot even with the thresholds, a knucklehead overshot and bent up a 172 last year.
I like the trees, it they weed out the flatlanders and the mile plus runway folks from KPDK.

ETA - I used to land downhill, over trees, turn and rangefind back to the trees ... some days I was at 900 ft.

I was about to post up my experience of landing at Wimpy Int in a Grumman Cheetah w/ 1PIC & 3 passengers, an hour on the full fuel load in the middle of the summer. I Used up ALL that runway to get that pig airborne & some the leaves those trees too.
I always landed to the north. 7mm |
