Definitely need to lay out a flight path and keep an eye on it before it gets into open air space. I'm still afraid of flying up high and it just going off somewhere. I do think about getting a license but so far everything I've needed to do, I've been able to with my sub 250g DJI. |

If the man found you with a quad you would be near a sensitive location. Or you spent way to many batteries fly adjacent to a sensitive location. The military isn't like the movies, there is no QRF just sitting idle waiting for a drone to appear in the airspace. As for the other FUDDs of this thread. They are great for surveillance and they require zero skill to fly. The software won't let you crash and burn. Now flying into a stock is another story. |

The "line of sight" thing is a dealbreaker for me. I have several friends and family who live within a 6 mile radius. I would get one if I could sit at home and fly it over to their house to mess with them. With all the trees in my neighborhood, line of sight would be about 100 yards. Boring. |

I know what I saw and described it in detail in that thread from last year... It was a military aircraft doing a search/recon whatever of the area surrounding me. I basically forgot to check for TFR's in my area and sent the drone I had at the time ( Potensic atom SE, non-RID equipped ) up for a flight over the wooded area behind my house. It was mid flight ( after about ten minutes ) that I remembered to check for TFR's so I did, saw there was a presidential TFR in place for Bedminster, NJ and I was on the outer perimeter ( literally 1-2 miles to the west and I'd be out of it ), so I brought it back down right away. Literally 2 minutes after I landed what transpired in that thread I referenced occurred. It was no hallucination, it was no survey aircraft, it is as I described in that thread. from my thread last year: " and in the morning the aircraft in question I am posting about flew over my area doing what looked like some kind of search pattern. This aircraft approached my place from the south west, by my estimate flying at around 500 feet-1000 feet, and than veered off to the east, before finally flying off in a southeasterly direction. It was low, slow, had a very, very wide wingspan with a " hump " of some sort just forward of the tail. Looking at silhouettes of military planes, it was a pretty close match to an MQ09 Reaper, but I think what I saw may have been larger, and I also didn't notice a rotor at the rear, and heard more of a " jet engine " type sound coming from it as opposed to a propellor type sound. " I am not saying it was an MQ09, but it sure had a similar profile. I basically spent the entire afternoon waiting for the secret service to show up. |
