Very nice. The crabs remind me of one of my 1st dives. 75 feet down on the bottom watching 2 crabs duke it out!!

Backscatter makes a magenta filter for green water. Buy the FLIP 3.1 system with the "dive" filter, plus buy the green water filter extra and you can switch them out. That way you have a filter for green water (i.e. lakes and quarries) and then a filter for blue water (i.e.salt/tropical, etc)

Did two boat dives today. One on a wreck (Palawan) and one off the shoreline... max depth 17ft where I was. Basically just burning off what was left of our tanks from the wreck dive.

Cheap is the operative word in my buying vocabulary.... which is ironic because I'll spend a buttload of money on a bunch of things but won't spend that amount on just one thing. Yet anyway. I'm giving serious thought to plunking down the bucks for a Shearwater Research Petrel. At some point in the next year I'll probably also buy a better reg set than what I'm currently using. I'm not quite ready to drop a couple grand on camera equipment though.

I went on a scooter run today and vis was maybe 15-20 feet... HORRIBLE. I can't imagine 5 feet. What's the point?

"Black water diving" in eastern NC in the rivers -- FOSSILS.  When the area that is currently land used to be under the ocean millions of years ago, fossils were laid down and now the rivers cut through fossil beds.  The catch is that there's lot of entanglement hazards and it is truly "black water" diving.  Maybe 1-2ft of vis.  I have a few friends who do the occasional 3-6 hour river dive for meg teeth and other fossils.  Frequently, the meg and other shark teeth found in the rivers can be higher quality than found in the ocean, since the river fossils have sat in mud for millions of years whereas the ocean fossil have bounced around on the bottom.

Neat... but you're not selling me on it. I like to know what I'm about to bump into or touch ahead of time. I've been spoiled where I am so it's hard to imagine anything different. But to each his own.

Ironically enough, the water is crystal clear for about 1-2ft.  But then, even a high-powered HID light gets swallowed up in the gloom.

All pics were taken at Ginnie Springs, near Gainesville, Florida. The main cavern there is open to OW certified divers as well as cavern/cave divers. I had the redneck/ghetto-rigged sidemount thing going on because I was low on air in my main tank and the shop had already closed when we were doing our second dive... this was back before I had four tanks of my own to use and I borrowed a stage tank setup from one of the cave divers I went there with, clipped it to my BC and used that to breathe. I was kinda off balance, but it was still fun.

I don't know if I'll ever get into cave diving, but it sure looks cool.
