Update 9/18 These tunnels under the castle will be interesting to try to coat with burlap. Someone needs to get into trouble and be assigned this.    Loving how this is turning out. Now, if we can teach others to do the same pattern, big dots towards the back of the head, smaller ones towards the muzzle......and little ones in between all.   Dragon toes still being sculpted.  Working to get the gunnels figured out.  Sides of the neck ribs getting stringers that we will attach scales and skin to.  "Was built on Friday"  We have a slight problem here. This is the cord that runs along the top of the trim from the tower to the wall and down to the outlet.  One of my best painters getting her references set up to start some details into the murals.

That is the plan. You are aware you can get them directly Put a mold plug in for several different locations to find what area(s) look best as well as to have spares to replace in those spots. IOW, don't permanently embed the LEDs in resin until you see the effect that location gives. Due to spherical distortion it doesn't always look like you think it will. Use a bare copper rod 1.8-5mm diameter (whichever LEDs you choose) and put Vaseline around tip and use it to leave area for LED be placed in. Round off metal bar a bit with drill and belt grinder trick i you don't have even a rudimentary lathe. Once you have them in place, hot goo them to hold and hot goo peels off to replace LEDs that quite.

Update 9/19 @blackx-runner I think you sent us these. THANK YOU! We won't be running out anytime soon.    The hull of our ship is starting to look a little cleaner. We had to go back and rework several of the crossmembers, as they didn't line up quite right, but we are getting there.    This is the hand drawn keel carving. It looks pretty cool. We will see if we go this route on this keel, or the 3rd.  Our alternate method for 3D printing. Students are still tracing out the design. It's tedious.  Our dragon skin continues. I had two quit on me this morning, so I will need to find new artists for that.   Yesterday was "Critique day" so students wrote and talked about the work they have done up until this point.  Slowly finishing up the burlap shell on our landscape tiers.  The beginnings of our Viking village.  My former dragon skin creators.....building viking houses and not the least caring for our poor dragon skin.  |

Update 9/20 Late update. I forgot my phone this morning. Kind of hard to document things with out it. Measuring and fitting the top of the hull.   Getting the basic sketch down for part of our mural- Viking village.  Tower is about ready for the tile.  Another sucker for the dragon skin....  I did find 3 more to help out today, and it's coming along well.  Homecoming week, so we have "Pink" today.  Rock mix going on the bottom of the cavern section below the castle.  Only 10 more rib extensions to go.  |

Update 9/21 Dragon Eyes..... The Trials We got a bit carried away with the amount of coloring in the epoxy resin, so these turned out a bit darker than I would like to see. We decided to do experimenting on these with different techniques, and do more sets after learning a bit more. These started out with a clear pour, then a second layer of coloring. You can see it is almost impossible to see where the two layers come together.   With a dremel, we messed with carving down into the epoxy. We may add another layer of epoxy after these are cut, with a different color?  We also used utility knives to cut lines into the back of the epoxy.  With light behind them, the lines were visible. Not so much on the darker blue.  One student is painting the back and they are turning out very nicely.  Students were not excited about pulling the panels of our tower again, but to do the base, we needed to pull a couple. This allowed us access to attach the 2x4s to the base.  We plan on attaching plywood to give a rock/cliff like texture to the base. Something that is strong enough to resist accidental bumps/kicks.   Our dragon neck is going to need a bit more rework. The stringers aren't quite the way I'd like to see them line up.  Our ships hull is starting the line up pretty well. We've got a bit of adjustment, as we need to make sure our caliper measurements end up being optically pleasing and accurate.  @Gigglesmith it's in our hands. Opening will be in a couple hours.

| Also consider that the Streamlight is likely putting out a lot more lumens than what you may eventually use for backlighting. |

Need to put in just little bits of resin at a time with a brush, then protect with a clear layer of resin, then another set o lines drawn out with as a brush of similar or same color, then clear resin,, etc. A flat pour ruins the effect but if patient and do about 20 layers of the rays for the eye it turns out great and there is no need for a flat pour which, as you've seen, destroys any 3D effects by not allowing light to get to back and bounce forward again. An iris of an eye is very tedious, but extremely rewarding. You can end up very lifelike. I've done a hazel human eye and it turned out ok, the white kind of screwed it up but keep the area of the iris deeply layered and when you move your head the different rays show and it really pops out. Dremel or sand off the flat pour and layer in iris streaks and go bit by bit to see what happens when you do something, woke on one pair at a time instead of making the same mistake on all of them, use different methods for each pair to get ideas on how to complete them. |

I gotta send something, my old posters and such won't do...but what to send... Has there been any talk yet about a shirt? I wore my F22 shirt to the store yesterday, got some looks, but nobody asked. Hoodie for the fire fighters will come as soon as it cools down enough to wear one - our high today was 96. |

Yeah, I'm hoping we limit how much die we use in our next batch of experiments. We just wanted to see what the carving would do to the look. Probably won't do that many layers. There just isn't the time or patience. I think if we do thinner layers of pours and details added between, we can get what we are looking for. Update 9/22 Frantic Friday Homecoming Edition Little more crazy than normal Frantic Fridays. Homecoming is today, and our football team seems to be a contender for the state title this year. First off.... A HUGE THANK YOU TO @Gigglesmith Not only did he regale us with some classic music from "The Vikings", he surprised us with an extremely generous donation.  Our 2nd our crew family photo, complete with homeless thank you sign.   Also yesterday, @Sixtigers HOLY CRAP!!! ARFCOM generosity is astounding. THANK YOU!  This showed this morning... Goes pretty well with yesterday's surprise.  Got our posters up this morning.   Our Viking village buildings are taking shape, and look pretty cool.    For scale........  My dragon sculptors working on the forearms.  More wire being added to the caverns under the castle tier.  Our rework on the hull is still in progress. We ended up pulling almost all of the rib extensions and refitting them, using a center line. Probably should have thought of that from the beginning. We are working to get the top rail more lined up, adjusting a few ribs here and there to get what we need. A couple will need the tops trimmed just a bit to get the level correct.  We are working on how to get the curves correct on the bow and stern. We will probably cut out plywood curves so they look correct.  |
