On December 17th I ordered my first "Grown Up" watch at 48 years old form my 49th birthday three days later. On December 25th I ordred myself a Christmas present from eBay.  On December 30th I realized I had to have something besides a dive watch.  On January 3rd I realized that I needed a GMT/COSC.  On January 7th I logged into the Christopher Ward sale, and am waiting on this to arrive.  My wife is going to schedule a fucking intervention.

I retired 7 years ago, took off my watch on the last day and threw it in a drawer. About 3 years later I decided I wanted to start wearing a watch again but I wanted something fun and different. So, I bought a Vostok and then another and then found the world of Vostok modding. After about 6 months or so of that, I decided I wanted something nicer. After a little research I discovered watch forums and online sellers and shortly thereafter things started to spiral. Now I own a half dozen Rolexes, a bunch of German watches, a few Swiss watches and a smattering of Seikos. At this point, I'm probably going to a one watch in, one watch out policy as my collection has gotten to the point that I'm not wearing my favorites perhaps as much as I would like because there are too many watches in my boxes to choose from. I've even been working on a watch rotation spreadsheet.  What I've found is I enjoy watches for many of the same reasons I enjoy firearms. The mechanical complexity, the idea of the blending of form and function, the lasting quality of a good product and even a reasonable amount of value retention. The difference for me is unlike my guns, my watches are something I can enjoy every single day. They don't wait for time to get to the range or appropriate weather or finding an available friend to shoot with. Every morning I just pick one out of a box and enjoy it. |

I have a watch box that holds 18 watches, so I decided my limit is 18 watches. When I get a new watch, something has to go. |

Congrats, OP. Next you'll see that a couple of watches you already bought will pay for a higher tier watch. The cycle of violence cannot be broken. Tell DavidSW I said hi. I can't lie to you about your chances, but you do have my sympathies. |
