Who didn't see this coming. Drones buzzing back and forth all day. Neighbors have had enough.

Yeah they sound annoying.

The angry neighbors just want the drones to fly higher over the houses [shrug]

looks like those drones shit out the package from 40-50 feet in the air.  Have you ever seen the way Amazon packs stuff up?  A box three times the size it should be.  How many returns for broken items?

I think the Walmart drones lower a long cable that has the package inside of it. It keeps the drone high above to lessen the noise.

Walmart+ is superior to Amazon. We get 1hr delivery (we're not really "local" to one) and have a hard time getting next day from Prime.

Zipline runs those drones for WalMart if I recall. It works rather well and I expect it to prove viable.

Amazon's drone program has been an absolute shitshow. They basically have nuked and restarted it several times, and each iteration has been a cluster fuck. Not sure how a company with infinite money has been so bad at something a tiny startup has successfully done.

I would imagine there's probably a limit on how high they can fly; don't want them up where the general aviation traffic might be.
I don't know what will happen, or if anything will happen. But if something does, I'd rather be the guy with a gun than the guy without one.

Are you just writing off the core charge?

Always see these going back and forth over I-70 in KC Kansas and wonder what happens here soon when all the starlings gang up in their pre-winter shotgun patterns.  We also have guys out here that run those prop driven paragliders and are plenty low enough to collide.

pretty much for those
truck is dead in the driveway
go inside, order from walmart
log in to work, do things
delivery happens
install battery
finish work day from home
tell self, 'self, we're gonna charge that old battery and do something with it, otherwise we'll drop it at the oreillys later this week'

two years later, still sitting on concrete block outside

it's only like $20 on a $200 battery so, meh, whatever

eta: if i had the forethought to plan for when it's gonna go bad, i'd drive up there and swap it out in the parking lot but the convenience of my driveway is worth a lot these days

What do you do with the old battery and the disposal fee?

Walmart uses multiple companies.

The Walmart supercenter in my town uses zipline. It has a big drone which lowers another drone via cable which opens up and poops out the package.

I've seen another WalMart delivery company that has a little parachute and they just dump it out while flying over your yard.

Unfortunately, I'm in an older neighborhood with heavy tree coverage in my yard so I'm not able to try it out. But I have heard them flying overhead a few times when I'm outside. They do fly high enough that it's just a very low sound, makes about as much noise as someone running an electric lawn mower 200 ft away.

Yep, the majority of my Walmart plus deliveries are same day as long as I order by 2:00 p.m.

Even the Walmart ones aren't that quiet. Not that I give a shit. If you live in Texas, there's a good chance someone will host a live mariachi band in the backyard after midnight.

Oh no, the buzzing of drones and leaf blowers. For fucks sake.

The walmart in town does drone delivery, and the stupid things are everywhere.  During the day it's not to bad, but when everyone gets home from work, you can look at the walmart and it's like a freaking airport.  At least 12 drones flying around all the time.

Amazon's drones have a record of crashing into shit and catching fire. I don't want them over my house either.

No problem with Zipline drone delivery, they have their shit together.

I hoarded daily Dunkin Donuts's styrofoam cups for years, in a few lawn bags they do a decent job.
