I tried looking through the first page and didn't see this topic. I am looking for a portable option beyond my cell phone as that is difficult for more detailed tasks. I've never had a tablet and the last laptop I had died 3(?) years ago. I'm basically never home and I want a personal device to do anything I need on while out and about. (ie, last week my fiduciary sent me some paperwork to review and sign but this was not easy on my cellphone; my mother is also noncompetent so I have her stuff to deal with) I don't keep up with technology as it is not my thing but with the end of the year coming I thought it would be good to have ideas what to keep an eye out for. |

Not the cheapest option, but I use an MS Surface Pro to fill that role. Let's me use it like a tablet but also can tackle more complex tasks you'd normally use your laptop for. I'm on my second one actually. The first lasted about 8 years before I felt a need to upgrade. My only real complain has been that the peripherals (charger, keyboard) aren't as durable as I'd like and I've replace both multiple time over the 12 years or so I've been using them. |

| What phone do you have? If you are an Apple user, an iPad Pro is a great option. I use mine all the time as a tablet and a computer. It is synched with my phone so it runs all the mobile apps too. |

Cost isn't a huge concern for me at the moment, usability and portability are my two biggest concerns. I'll look into the surface pro.

You can get a convertible tablet such as the little framework machine. Works as a laptop then you flip it all about and it's suddenly a tablet. A tablet is just a big smartphone without the phone parts. Whatever is difficult on a phone will still be difficult on a tablet, just larger. |
