Indiana was where the ncaa infractions occurred, and cincy played him for 2 years knowing he had a gambling problem. He hasn't taken a snap for TTU (aside from spring game) |

Yes, Texas fired the staffers, ran off the player that did the most betting, and punished the player who gambled the least (and gave him counseling, and told him if it happens again you’re toast), we didn’t file a lawsuit and then point fingers at everyone else. Above and beyond that, Texas self reported the issue as soon as it came to light. |

TT has placed themselves on an island. Prominent college sports attorney Thomas Mars, who helped Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss obtain a preliminary injunction to play for the Rebels this season after the NCAA denied his application for a retroactive medical redshirt for the 2022 season at Division II Ferris State, said he believes the Big 12 can take action against Texas Tech for using a player who was ruled ineligible by the NCAA. The NCAA ruled Sorsby ineligible after it discovered he wagered approximately $90,000 on professional and college sports over four years, including 40 bets involving Indiana football when he was a freshman with the Hoosiers in 2022. The NCAA denied Texas Tech's appeal for reinstatement Friday. "There is no question that the Big 12 could impose draconian sanctions on Texas Tech, and the type of sanctions would only be limited by their creativity," Mars told ESPN on Tuesday. "The Big 12 is not party to the Texas lawsuit and is, therefore, not enjoined from doing anything." Big 12 Bylaw 3.6 allows for the conference to sanction a member with a supermajority vote of disinterested directors after "representatives of the Member(s) that are subject of such vote has been given reasonable prior notice and the reasonable opportunity to be present and to be heard." Among other reasons, the bylaw allows for the Big 12 to discipline a member for being "engaged in any action or a course of conduct materially adverse to the best interests of the Conference taken as a whole." The bylaws allow for the disinterested directors to "be empowered to determine whether any Sanctions are appropriate, the type, extent, and conditions to any Sanctions imposed." The bylaw allows for discipline that includes "prohibitions on appearance in postseason events or televised events, restrictions on revenue distributions, and limitations on recruiting or scholarships." They did it to Baylor when their scandal broke. The B1G did something similar during the Harbaugh cheating case. This is interesting because the conference is not obligated to adhere to the judge’s decisions since it is not a party to the case. What a mess. It should be so easy. Play a sport? Don’t bet on it or you’ll get a lifetime ban. Other sporting organizations do this. Why should CFB be any different. Sorsby is legally eligible and I'm guessing that means we owe him his revenue sharing and NIL, portal is not available, and transfers at this point also levy heavy penalties on the HC. Think the judge would take it lightly on TTU to kick an eligible athlete they promised to support to the curb? Worst part is this is all due to Will Hammond tearing his ACL last season. He was supposed to be the next dude and probably will end up being just hoping he doesn't rip his ACL again coming back too early. I think Tech should have cut Sorsby when it all came out. But then again there is already an NCAA precedent set. Precedent As for the football program specifically, the Longhorns have reportedly since received further education on the issue. One of the players is no longer part of the program anyways while the other player was reportedly made ineligible, later reinstated, and then paid the total of any of his winnings back to charity. So i'm not surprised that Sorsby and his legal team are pushing the matter. NCAA is really in a pickle on this one. |
