What a sad sad story coming out of my home town area. A 24 year old teacher and 10 year old student died in a drowning accident while on a field trip. The accident happened at the Macbride lake spillway that fills into a larger reservoir. Normally this spot is fairly safe but with all the rain we have had lately I’m sure the water was moving fast and the current was strong. I’m absolutely baffled the school still proceeded with the field trip and allowed the students close enough to fall in. The full details haven’t been released yet, but I can only imagine the student fell in and the teacher went in after. This area has been a popular field trip destination for decades, and I remember going there when I was an elementary school kid. I fish the spot from time to time and theres normally lots of kids and families exploring and hiking around.  |
