| So i have two Audiophile style headphones. Thats Id like to use, but obviously no microphone. Is there any decent standalone mics I can attach or that work well? |

Depends. Do you just want good/it works? Or Audiophile grade quality? Good/it works: Modmic. Sounds great, works great, has 2 options, either wired or wireless. Wired Wireless I've had both, I like both. I used both for years. I currently run a Shure MV7, got a good deal on it. It is great, perfect clarity and sounds amazing with decent gains. The only downside, is like most barrel mics, they need to be rather close and pointed at your mouth to work as intended. Modmic tends to sit more at the side of your mouth like traditional headset mics, so it's never an issue. The only other real downside, that's not exactly a downside, is that you need a mic boom or stand. And like all things, you get what you pay for. Shure MV7 So I guess the answer is it depends. What are you going to be doing with it? Chilling talking on discord with friends while gaming? Streaming? Any serious recordings at all? You can get by with the basic wired Modmic. It sounds great if all you are doing is chatting. I was given the wireless version for free to review, I wouldn't have paid the premium price over the wired version. While it was good, I found the quality to be a bit degraded on the wireless version and sometimes had issues with receiver dropping the connection. Combine that with constantly having to keep it charged, just wasn't the best it could have been. It has its uses though. If you want true quality sound for anything regardless of application, grab a Shure mic, even some of their lower end sounds better than Modmic any day, though I'm sure you'll need to do some setting up to achieve it out of the box on the lower end models. Shure also uses XLR cables, but has options for usb as well (check details). ETA: I used ATH AD700's and DT990 Pros for years with a modmic just for gaming, no issues. I now run a ATH R70x with the Shure MV7. Though I am eyeballing a pair of DT 1990 pro MKII with the lower impedance. |

I've gone through two Modmics, they just eventually start failing for me. Was staticcy and cutting in and out. I loved the form factor. Been using an older version of these on my PC for 4 years now, very happy with them. Plus the mic flips up out of the way for those times you don't want or need it.

Depends on how compact or modular you want to go. I wanted nicer audio for the mic, so I ended up running an AKG P220 XLR mic on a boom arm with my Sennheiser 560S headphones through a Scarlet Solo. Probably overkill, but it works fantastic. You've got all that money in a nice headset, get a mic to match. |
