 Cause stuff like this is what can happen when that neck is not at all protected -  I just added this girl to the family here. Say hello to Agatha -  Her previous owner said there was just one other particular Doberman dog there that this girl could not and would not 'get along' with and that this was the girl that had to go. I am telling myself that 'If the chewing that she received did not kill her it must have made her stronger'.  Pretty confident she can blend in here and get along with the other fidos.  Previous owner told me how she had trained Agatha to ring the bells by the door when it wanted to go out and even sent me pictures of the bells it was currently using (plus a link to where she bought them!). I DO plan to order me those bells and will be amazed if that girl actually uses them for the right reasons and teaches my existing girls how to do that shit. 'Monkey see - Monkey do' style... That stuff could very well happen. Dobermans are not stupid and will most definitely learn from seeing other dogs around them do different stuff.  Have not tried any of the bell training stuff before but DO plan to give it a shot going forward if this girl is already trained that way.  Current girls are boundary trained to about here as far as doors are concerned -  Girl does this godawful moan when a squirrel gets too close but will not cross the line without being allowed. Agatha was zipping around the front yard but staying well within her owners property line when I picked her up. Owner said she was trained property lines with a pet safe system but was not wearing the collar when I saw her. Even without the collar the girl knew the lines in that yard where she was supposed to be and where she was not supposed to be... Previous owner pointed out where all the lines were in the yard and it fit perfectly where the dog was dong her thing at while unleashed. The girl was most definitely boundary trained to that yard to the point that she did not need a special collar or batteries to remember her lines. Girl here broke my boundary line I set for them by a few inches with her front feet. (that second line is supposed to be the red line)  I am still calling it a win cause she has at least 2 feet inside.

Imma save this thread. Attached File or maybe threadkiller Only encounter with a Dobie that stuck in my mind was from my youth. The urban legend of the demon dog was fed to me by older siblings and gradeschoolers. When the dag was bounding out to the street, 10yr old me panicked and ran. Game on! Running for awhile, I eventually realized doggo could’ve had me in about 0.5 seconds, so it was simply enjoying the chase  Buddy had one that was smarter than a lot of people, and a character that could entertain until you hurt from laughing so hard. |

The steel parts feel heavy and the locking clasp parts seem to be fairly sturdy. (have had types like this with plastic clasps break quickly and would never buy again) Have not weighed the new girl yet (monday will be here Vet day) but for a 2yr old she is damn tiny compared to my other girl Dystopia.  Granted Dystopia is a bit of a porker and could stand to lose at least 5lbs of gut but still... Am thinking new girl (Agatha) is closer to 60ish lbs and Dystopia is at least 85lbs still. Agatha also has never been tough love trained to go potty in stormy weather. Has been horrible weather here since she arrived and she is getting a pass for now because she is so new and trying to give her time to settle in but... She is going to learn soon enough that rain or not - Grass is where the pee and poop need to go. Fortunately she was not overly 'fearful' (no shaking or hiding shit or anything like that) during any of the current thunder stuff or heavy rain we have had here last few days / just did not 'like' it. I don't do thundercoat bull shit here and never will... Previous girls were desensitized to bad weather by going for long walks in it...  A proper Doberman is NOT going to be shitting their fur pants just because they heard a loud noise somewhere...   Then tend to not run AWAY from loud noises and are more likely to run TOWARDS them in my experience... New girl has that same super short military crop like the dogs in the pics above. Would not have picked that sort of crop myself personally if I had a choice but it be what it is AND there is lots of reasons they did it that way back in the day... That stuff was never about pretty and all about making the dog better able to do what it was needed to do. Had to explain to my mom the other day about how when there is a huge flap of ear covering the ear canal a dog can't really localize the direction that a sound came from as well as they can without that barrier in the way. Similar to holding your hand over your ear, closing your eyes and then trying to determine which direction a sound came from... Not happening with your hands over your ears no matter how hard you try. That military crop is also without a doubt the most owner easy of crops to deal with as far as getting the ears to stand correctly when all is said and done. The longer one goes with the crop the harder it is and the longer it takes to get things to stand correctly... That and how the cropped ears stay cleaner inside where it matters and a possible hematoma from stuff flopping around during a random headshake is impossible... New girls ears are short as hell but the cuts seem straight enough and they do stand perfectly. Not seeing anything weird about any of the edges. Edges look as clean as the ones on the big girl and she had a damn seamstress of a Vet lady do her stuff.  Not planning on regular trips to the shooting range with either girl but... I do know for sure (after having raised 7 different Dobermans so far over many years) that I got nothing I might be messing with sound wise that might cause one to freak out and even the loudest tools or machines I may be using are all stuff that even the most sensitive of Dobermans can quickly and easily be acclimated to in short order.   (blows my mind how the bitches can be napping and not even move if I want to use this machine behind them in this picture but if the side door makes its particular sound when opening they are up and checking it out INSTANTLY - How do they even hear that little shit over the sound of everything else???) But they do... I am super happy with the new girl so far and damn glad I found her and made her a part of the family here. Poor girl has no idea that she just entered a home where multiple cans of sardines for said girls are well stocked and part of the regular Dober diet / treat schedule. |

Dog instantly spotted his masked ass and bolted to deal with it appropriately. Fortunately the kid stood up from behind the bush when he saw us come out and pulled the mask off. Dog slammed on the brakes as soon as the mask came up and she saw who it was / realized it was part of the family here and ended up sliding into the kid while stopping. If the kid had not taken off that mask when he did stuff would have not ended the same way... I did not beat the dog that day for what it did towards the 'stranger' in the yard hiding behind the bush. Explained to the son how that shit was a bad idea for a game and how he damn near got chomped on. Kid most definitely saw that dog charge his ass with ill intent and then saw the change once his mask came off and the dog recognized who he was... Did not really need to explain anything because the son saw it firsthand. He educated his brother and... They no longer did mask shit so it was not a problem.

Am seriously starting to think that adding Agatha to the family here was me getting very, very lucky. Except for a very few potty accidents (mostly because of bad storms outside) this girl has been nothing but perfectly behaved inside of the home here or at work. She is most definitely already house trained. So far it seems to have been good for my big girl too. Agatha has been very relaxed and submissive to her so far and pretty much tries to follow her around at all times. Big girl has been showing a lot of protective ugliness every chance she can here lately because of her new friend. Two weeks ago she was not getting ugly with the cat across the street just because it was there... |
