"For the second time in two months, SpaceX technicians have begun to install a Raptor engine on Starhopper, a full-scale Starship testbed theoretically capable of low-velocity, moderate-altitude ‘hops’. Back in late March, Raptor and Starhopper were joined for the first time, enabling a lengthy series of attempted tests that were followed by two engine ignitions and tethered hops before Raptor was removed for inspection. In the two months since that first round of integrated testing, SpaceX has significantly upgraded Starhopper and its spartan launch facilities, all focused on transforming the odd vehicle from a largely fixed test stand into a giant, mobile Grasshopper." |

| Drove by the Boca site yesterday. The "rocket" is now anchored with guy wires. Looks pretty impressive when you see it in the distance, gleaming in the sun. Up close, not so much. Pulled over to snap a few pics and an armed security guard asked us to leave. Didn't seem the friendly sort. |

And it uses a fuel that is cheaper (NG/Methane) than jet fuel, the cost to fill up a Starship upper stage is not much different than the JP-1 cost to fill up a 777-ER. This would be great for the military... You could move thousands of troops nearly anywhere on Earth in under an hour. A true "Rapid Reaction" force. |

They are probably much more prominent on the Raptor because the only sea-level rocket engines with higher ISPs are hydrogen engines (with a mostly invisible flame), it's high chamber pressure, and the bright blue-violet flame it makes. Other rockets have mach diamonds too though: (RD-180)  Merlin:
