Working on a custom heavy Arca rail for a buddy when I started hearing this really loud tic, tic, tic from the head of my mill. Naturally I start worrying that the back gear gas lost teeth or there is a bearing that has exploded. Top fell off.  The motor was quite heavy. Rest of it came apart pretty easily. Bearings are all in great shape, bull gear needs grease repack but I did find the issue!  The metal thing that holds the felt washer on the top of the spindle came apart and was being eaten by the bull gear assembly. Worst part of the whole thing is while it's a $17 dollar part (way over priced for some super thin sheet metal and hair mashed together) the shipping for 1oz of this assembly is $17! That's for the slowest shipping too! Hopefully have my machine back together by the new year! |

Bridgeport Series 1 HD with Synchro-Trace 2 and manual knobs. It'll handle 3x 2HP heads. Table is 60". Saddle is massive, about twice the size of a normal Series 1. 3500lb machine breaking my garage floor. |
