14 is already hell. It will get worse. Done 14 before - but skipped the years after that till 18. Did 18-21 or so, then got disowned again. At 14, she is a cell phone addict. Goes bat shit crazy if you want to find out what she was doing. Came out pan last week (the other waited till mid 20's to get her street cred), we are not Luddites (hell, I was a network admin - wife's brother was speaker at tech conferences - we can track more than we want too. Kids are idiots thinking things online are private). How the blue fuck do you know if you are pan if you are still asexual-pretty sure she still has not had that type of relationship. I hate modern kid culture. Honestly, I do put blinders on. I could easily see everything she types on any device - I don't want to see most things. |
| Depends. I’ve seen teenage girls that fit the emotionally retarded stereotype and a few that you can look in their eyes and know they could pull the trigger on anyone crossing them. |

No. Having teenage daughters is like seeing the childhood you created for them reflected in the adult they're becoming. It sounds like you're just seeing the result, and that it involves a lot of crying. IME there were a few tears in puberty but they were transitory. |

Wait till you hear door slamming like you’ve never heard before. My wife commented on how she couldn’t understand how the daughter got into the practice of slamming doors in front of her dad. My FIL laughed his ass off and stated that he had to fix the door jambs in the house after my wife and SIL moved out. She had no recollection of that and the look on her face was hilarious. |

Mine was pretty good as a teen. She was focused on school and never got too boy crazy. Other than a few sessions of “I HATE YOU, you’re ruining my whole life!” at which I would chuckle, which really pissed her off, she really wasn’t too much trouble at all. They’re riding the “E-train” pretty hard in those years, as my wife put it. It’s just something you have to survive. You choose your battles to keep them safe but otherwise don’t expect them to listen to you all that much. The good news is that they will grow out of it. My daughter is in her late 20s, now and we have a very good relationship. ETA- NONE OF MY BUSINESS, OP but since you posted it, don’t try to get too involved in their lives unless you are planning to stick around. The last thing teen girls need to watch is men who come and go out of their mother’s life. It sets them up for pretty low expectations for future relationships. I know because I have seen it with one of my daughter’s good friends when they were growing up. She now dates 20-something boys with flat brim hats and neck tats. |
Life is short. If you are waiting for “someday”, it’s here!

Its pretty rough, not gonna lie. Mines 14, be 15 in a couple weeks. She runs cross country track, she tweaked her right knee, orthopedic doctor said she can't run until she has an MRI ( X Rays showed nothing ), so as we were checking out she had a meltdown. I asked, what is wrong? She just sobbed. Finally got it out of her, running is all that makes her happy in life. Ok, you can still run, after this heals up. No, she wanted to be running in the meet today they're having. Nope, sorry. Holy shit. |

Daughters are about to turn 13 and 12. We are just on the leading edge of some hormonal times. Mostly it's fighting between the two, and the occasional "you don't understand" or similar. My go to rebuttal is "I love you too much to argue" which usually generates an initial response, but doent give anything with which to counter. So they end up quiet, and apologize shortly thereafter. Overall, theyre good girls, and I hope the next few years can continue as such. Their older brother tends to keep himself busy elsewhere, whether in the woods or in the garage, and im kinda jealous! |

I'm not there yet with my daughters, but even in elementary school there is way more drama than there was with my son. Girls seem to be just meaner to each other. I watched my next door neighbor raise his daughter in her teen years, and I think he did it right. He spent a lot of time doing activities and projects with her. He didn't treat her like a princess, but kept her close and gave her the attention girls want from their Dad. She ended up mature and grounded. So my takeaway is to be involved with your kids, have bonding experiences with them, and maintain a solid base relationship that will help weather the storms. |
|
Sometimes my girls and my wife battled it out. Most of the time they were good. Don't remember much crying and honestly if there had been I would have stopped whatever the hell was going on. In the few instances where it was mom vs. one of the girls all I had to do was interject myself and they either all turned against me or STFU because they didn't want me involved. I can only count a few times I had to do that. |

A friend of mine dealt with this by removing the door. Holy shit, his daughter went ape shit over that. |
I have two teenage daughters, a toddler daughter, and a perimenopausal wife. There's a lot going on here.

Have a 14 year old daughter who is pretty awesome. Does she do some boneheaded stuff? Yeah, sometimes it's comical. But I did some pretty dumb shit when I was 14 as well. Least I don't have to worry about her blowing shit up like I did in the 80's. The social media aspect is pretty bad, though. I've heard some cringe worthy shit about teenage girls just being absolute bitches to each other online. That part I worry about. As others have said, it's really a reflection of the parents. Neighbors have a daughter the same age and they tried to be 'friends' vs being a parent and it shows. If that girl isn't pregnant by 16 I'll be supremely surprised. |

Occasionally gets sassy with mom, but thats about it. Really blessed on that front with the lack of crying, attitude, or general bad behavior. That said, the older kids (17y/o twins) have mis-prioritized their schoolwork relative to other activities. I gave them opportunities to fix it themselves but they chose not to. So now they get to wake up with me at 430 and get cracking on school. Today had many "I can't just get uppppppp-uhhhhhh that fast-uhhhhh"'s before she dragged her pouty ass out of bed . Count myself blessed if thats usually the worst grief she gives me.

Not my experience. I wouldn’t dismiss it as teenaged girl stuff. I’d look more closely into the family dynamics. Sounds like you’re seeing indications your girlfriend’s situation isn’t as well grounded as it should be. Not trying to talk trash about your girl, just pointing out what I see as an early red flag. If the kid isn’t stable, it’s because she wasn’t taught how to be, or worse: learned to be dramatic from her parents. I always say there’s no arfcom curse, y’all are just bad at making good decisions. |

my two teen girls have their heads on straight and ultimately cause less stress in my life combined than my wife. My son on the other hand, we (he and I) are both ready for him to move out. He needs to learn lessons that only life can teach him.... |

Not my experience at all. My second daughter is 14, and will be done with high school next year when she will start full time as secretary at our family business. She was full time all this summer and works 2 hours a day after school. There will be no further formal school education, her training is to be a homemaker, wife & mother. I would expect her to be married sometime after she turns 18, and why not? It has worked for her mother, grandmother, sister, and other family members. She is a great cook, and makes a wonderful whole wheat bread from grinding the wheat berries for flour to the baking. She makes her own dresses on her mothers sowing machine, and helps take care of our animals on the farm. She can run a tractor & other farm equipment. She got 2 deer last year. All these things involve being together with family. She does not have a cell phone, and will not get one until she has her drivers license. We do not have a TV in the house, and social media is monitored and quite limited. Keeping children busy with both work and play is important. Last Sunday after Church we went for a bike ride, next Sunday afternoon will be at the lake with Kayaks. Other days we work together. Simple things that involve family, both at work and at play. Just like Americans used to do. It takes time, and an investment. My wife is a homemaker. There are lots of fancy things that we do without since we are a one income family. I am raising my girls to see the importance of being a wife and mother. Whether they choose a career or not is up to them, but why would they want that? It's not natural, fulfilling, or what I (or they) believe is best for family. |

No reports of any serious issues with my 16yo granddaughter. She's a good student, frugal with her spending habits (unlike her older brother) and drives herself to school. That said, she's also red-headed, left-handed horse girl who likes to shoot, so I guess any future boyfriends might have their hands full. Attached File |

Every time I read one of these threads, I thank God I have boys... Several family members with daughters and sons have all agreed, Boys are more work/more difficult from 0-12, but when they become teenagers, you just notice them walking through the house once in a while... While girls are easier and more careful and relaxed in the early years, and turn into the antichrist when they become teenagers until they are about 22.... |

My 15yo has actually become MUCH easier to be around in the last year or so, it's been really nice. |

My daughter made my life a living hell. Was cutting herself, attempted suicide a couple of times. Fought with the mrs and I constantly. Often skipping school. And she is incredibly smart, which made it worse. Now she's in college and has made a complete 180. She has even apologized for how she behaved. I've accepted her apology, but I still am wary around her. |
