I usually cook an big spread for family and guest. But this year I can't as my wife is now bed ridden with Alzheimer's. So I'll have no dinner this year. But I'd like to see what you have. Thanks EBR |

Thats rough. I went though it with my Ex-Wife's grandfather who pretty much raised her and we're kinda dealing with it now with my now wife's father. He kinda slips in an out of it and he's had at least one stroke. They are staying with us for the month and he constantly asks me the same questions over and over. Did you work today? Do you work tommorow? Yes, I work every M-F... I have a decent steel plates set up out in the back yard, its like a big swing set with 6-8 plates hanging from 12" chains. He thinks he is going to build one, when he gets back to South Carolina. He has asked me at least 14 times in the last two weeks, how long are those chains? I've taken him back there with the truck and helped him take a dozen pics from all angles, I even sketched him a diagram with all the measurements. He get up to pee at least 4 times a night and opens every door in the hallway looking for the bathroom. So I put a motion sensing light right below the door knob, so when he walks by (its right next to the guest room), it'll light up the door and hallway, thats not really super dark anyway.. At least 3 times, hes went right passed it, opened the hall closet where we keep all the bed cloths and extra blankets, pillows and such. He just stands there like he is stuck, till I say Paul, you need somethin buddy? He goes, Ohh, I'm just trying to find the bathroom again. I'm like, its the one with the glowing light under the door knob. He says Oh yea, goes, does his thing and back to bed. till the next round. Then we he decided he wants something, Ice cream, fried chicken, Mexican, Steak, etc.. etc.. He will not let up till he gets it. Then sometimes, 2 hours later, he starts in again about the same thing and we have to remind him, he just had it. Its pretty rough dealing with it. Back on your original question, No pics of the spread, but we are having our 3 of our grand kids, 2 of our 4 adult kids over, (sadly, there are family issues between the misses and the other 2) also our in laws, my dad, my sister, her husband and adult daughter over as well as a few friends. So far, That I know of, we are having: Turkey, Ham Mash taters, Fried Bean Greens and onions Stuffing Corn on the cob Sweet taters with marshmellows and some nuts Salad Rolls Cranberries and Beets (Beets are for the FIL) I'm sure there will be a few more sides and deserts. I'm really going to cut back or eat less this year and less deserts. I usually eat way to much and suffer. This whole year I have drastically reduced my intake and made better choices and its helped my weight, as I've lost over 40 lbs. Every year, my biggest worry is where everyone is going to sit. Seems like every other year, I buy another table and 2 more folding chairs. One of these days I'm going to put up a 20x30 or bigger Pole barn with a Kitchenet, Fridge, Microwave, small bar and Mini-split just to host events like this. We like to do Easter, 4th of July, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, Cinco De Mayo/Wifes birthday, etc, etc... I've been wanting to do this for years. We'll have a wall with 2 long tables for all the food/drinks ready to serve and 6-8 more rectangle tables that can be set out in rows or in a big U shape. A fridge for drinks and short term storage. IF I can do a loft or a mezzanine, we can put a shit loada stuff from the basement and garage out there and forget about it... LOL.. Then Dumpster it. For a restroom, I'll buy a big ass porta potty with a sink in it, then have it pumped out after each use. One of my friends did that, vs having a second septic put in. Its nice and works well. |

Sorry about your wife, hope you can still have a good day! Were keeping it pretty simple hanging with some friends. Brined smoked turkey, mashed tators/gravy, usual green bean casserole, stuffing and what not. Be best if this thread is still up on Thursday for actual pics of said spread. |
Since somebody asked… Ham (bought) Brined and smoked turkey Corn casserole Chicken dressing Green beans Bourbon sweet potato pudding (or whatever the hell that stuff is called…) Cranberry jelly stuff (bought) I smoked the turkey and made the green beans. My wife and mother in law did most of the rest (I was sous for them, did a lot of prep/chopping).   My son (very good baker) made an apple pie and a pecan pie (not pictured). Both were excellent. |
