Alright this may sound stupid. Does shooting handguns while wearing watches affect them in a negative way? Quartz? Mechanical? |

It depends on how much shooting you do. Unless you're blazing through hundreds of rounds a day and doing it almost daily, any accuracy gain or loss will be lost in the normal inaccuracy of the typical mechanical watch. Modern mechanical watches have built in shock protection and can take a lot of beating. If you do something to cause a mechanical to fail, you're probably in the ER. |

Just wear your watch and do whatever. I had a Seiko 6309 in the 80s. It did jump school, RIP, Ranger school, freezing, jungle, desert, 120ft under water, dozens more jumps, .45. m9, M16, M203, Saw, and 60 gunner time. In an era when a Ranger Bn had an ammo budget the same as like 18 infantry Bns in an airborne or light infantry division. It was ripped from wrist with a band failure. I have abused a 7002 and H601 since 1990/1991 and a 11610 since 2000. Plus Anton of newer Japanese and Swiss. A decent tool watch can last several lifetimes. Have you taken your Wrangler, trail rated grand Cherokee, FJ cruiser, x-terra, GX, XJ, etc. off road, or are you afraid it will be ruined? |

I prefer mechanical watches with steel bracelets, and have worn them for decades. (Rolex, Heuer, Seiko.) I didn't notice accuracy changes, but over that time I had several occasions where I THOUGHT that a lot of high-round-count handgun shooting caused a pin in the bracelet to wear out and break. I never had a watch hit the concrete yet (knocking furiously on wood) but changed my watch choice when I go to the range with handguns and a lot of ammo. Now I wear a plastic quartz Casio that has (comparatively) no mass and a buckle band made of rubber. When the band on one got old and cracked, it only cost $9 more for a new watch (with a fresh battery) than to replace the band. Keeps better time than my mechanical watches, too - all I do to it is reset it for standard/daylight time changes. |

I wear a Traser titanium because it is super light. The tritium tubes are barely visible. It is a quartz movement and waterproof. Every few years it gets a new battery. I paid $100 20 years ago. https://theairlandandsea.com/2021/01/traser-titanium-watch-review-commander-p6505.html |

Just watched it and its a good video. OP wear your watch man, don't be the guy who puts stickers on the watch so it doesn't get scratches. Only buy what you can afford to use like it should be. My Ranger has been to the ballet, banging around in the back of an ambulance on trauma call, classes at Sig Sauer Academy, and chasing Cape Buffalo in South Africa.Attached File |

According to the manufacturers, these expensive mechanical watches have "shock resistance" and should be OK. However, with how much they cost, why take the chance? I wouldn't wear them shooting, playing golf, etc. G-Shocks are cool watches, that's what I wear if there's any chance of shock, falling, vibration, water, etc. |

I worked my ass off to get where I am today. You bet your sweet ass I use my expensive watch every day and use my fancy Pelikan M800 FP as a daily pen. I have mabye 20-30 more good years and I sure as fuck going to enjoy them. |

I play drums multiple times a week for hours at a time. Far more often than I go shooting, unfortunately. Ive never had an issue from my factory built or even down to my home assembled Seiko mods. The only time I had an issue was on a homebrew i had just assembled. After using a reciprocating saw for about 4-6 hours straight give or take the hand set had come loose. But I attribute that to using an old/used hand set in conjunction with not properly setting them. The movement was still aok though. So after I put on a new hand set its just fine and still kicking. I got no hesitation or reservations about using any of my watches as they were intended. As tools. |
