My adventure began on some yellow footprints in San Diego in 1994. Round about 1997 I took a detour courtesy of some nice persuasive men from the Department of the Army. In 2011 I got hurt in Afghanistan...enough to take me out of the game and send me home in mid 2012.

Marine Corps Active Duty
SSGT 1994-2003 0311/ Infantry Rifleman Held duties as a rifleman, SAW Gunner, Fire Team Leader and Squad Leader. 8151/Marine Security Guard(I believe they have changed the MOS designator since). Also did a few Diplomatic details as well as a POTUS visit in 1997 in Argentina. 5831/Corrections, 5832/Correctional Counselor Duty Stations Camp Lejeune, USS Debuque, USS Fort McHenry, Camp Schwab Okinawa, MSG Det. Brussels, Belgium & Havana, Cuba, MCB Quantico and a few other various placed we deployed to. US Army Reserves SSG 2004-2010 31B3X Military Police, Drill Sergeant, 31E3/Corrections, 91X Mental Health Specialist( the MOS designator has been changed since) This was one of our advanced counselor courses I took as a Sergeant in the Marine Corps. Mobilized in 2005 Fort LeonardWood. |

Enlisted in the U S Navy October 1967(120 day delay program). Active duty from February 1968 to Dec 1971.
NATTC JAX AEA School May 1968 to Oct 1968 VF-62 F-8 Crusaders at NAS Ciecil Fiield Fla. Med cruise aboard the U. S. S. shangri-la CVA-38 from Oct of 1968 to July 1969. AE3 in June of 1969. VAQ-33 NAS Norfolk, VA from August 1969 to December of 1971 (early out program). AE2 in June of 1970. Received my honerable discharge Oct of 1974. In the early 1970's my father did a survey of our family (his and mom's side of the family). He found that there ere 32 honerable discharges (including his and mine). His oldest brother served in WWI and had a purple heart from being machine gunned by the Germans while on patrol. So far I've lost three fellow high school class of 1966 to agent orange cancer. That's three of thirty three males in my class which is not a good thing. Sill, OK Nov 2005-Feb 2006 HQ Btry 11th Marines Regt 0844 Iraq 2006-2007 Iraq 2008 Marine Arty Surveyor Course 2009 Voluntold to go to Recruiter School and it took 2 weeks for those assholes to realize Im not going to be a good recruiter so I got sent back to the fleet (happy about that too, didn't want to be there in the first place and got screwed out of AFG deployment for that waste of time, not an adverse fitrep if anyone is curious) Afghanistan 2010-2011 Combat Marksmanship Coach Course 2011, 0933 A-MOS S Btry 5th Bn 11th Marines 0844 FDC 2012-EAS Afghanistan 2012-2013 Now a fucking college student, if I could do it again, I should have lat moved or did a B-billet! I got dropped for lack of communication skills when I was there the first time so why try to make me go again? I can speak just fine, but I have NO desire for public speaking or to go up to random bitch ass kids to try to get them to enlist! |

Well, my career is kind of unique...
USMC 2002-2006 5711 (NBC) MWSS 271 MCAS Cherry Point (I hate the wing) Deployment 1: OIF1 Feb 2003 Deployment 2: OIF2 Feb 2004 (as PSP and heavy weapon instructor) attached to MWSS 274/2nd LAAD I left the Marines to go Army Ranger in 2006. My plan was get a deployment in Ranger Batt then go to SF selections. Army screws my RIP contract up. The civilian recruiter for the blue to green program didn't have Airborne in contract. I didn't know how it was suppose to look... In hind sight I should have taken more care with that contract. Airborne holdover was full. Senior Drill tells me he can't get me into RIP.... New plan, get to unit put in SF packet. I Get to unit, unit deploying... New plan, do deployment then do selections.... Army 2006-2011 11B (Infantry) I loved that job. Deployment 3: OIF whatever number Oct 2006 - Dec 2007 Ramadi during the "Awakening" Unit 1-9 Inf 2nd BCT, 2ID from Ft. Carson (light infantry) This is where it gets unique. I got hit with an IED on a dismounted raid about 6-8 feet in front of me. I got blown back and had a small concussion, small pieces of shrapnel. Well, my injuries were not bad enough to leave country. I was suffering horrible headaches though from TBI. I was a team leader and squad leader at certain parts so I sucked it up like an infantryman. Finally get home, get an MRI and find I have a brain arteriovenous malformation (AVM). Neurosurgeon said I was lucky to be alive. I had 5 brain surgeries through 3 different kinds of procedures in 2008. It was a horrible year I barely remember anything between the surgeries and meds I was on. Anyways, the Army started my med board process and I spent over 2 years in WTU (Warrior Transistion Unit). I got medically retired in 2011. So that's my service record. I wish I was still in! But I have no say in that. I was not made for civilian life. I can't work in LE or PMC either. Closest thing I can do is collect guns and shoot, lol. Sorry if it's tl;dr! Kind of hard to describe my military road easily. |

The neurosurgeons said my AVM was "impressive" so I'm guessing that was a doctors way of saying big, lol. My craniotomy was in the 9-10 hour range... But felt like 5 minutes to. But the pain when I woke was the worst I've ever felt. Sounds like your wife couldn't catch a break with brain surgery related stuff. That stuff is just no fun and quite miserable. |
