Goatboy, You know better than me but would it be a sufficient BW drop to display image links for guest users?

5899 Users Are Currently Online.
There are 1,338 Team Members, 1,026 Members, and 3,535 Guests

New editor seems pretty slick BTW.

With the update quotes seem to be fading off to grey on the last line even if there's nothing that follows and you have to click View Quote to read it without it being an eye test.  Is that an intended result?

Moving the tool bar to the top and getting rid of the left-side scrolling (on mobile) is great...

Is there any way to change font size on mobile without using code though? I haven't found it if there is...

Using the XXXXXXX.org (link removed) website, images seem to be extremely hit or miss now with most being a small icon that shows a camera with a line through it and no actual image.

I must not understand this.  Are we still going to be able to picture host on other services like imgur and others?  Because if not, that's real stupid, sir.

Image linking is normal.

For attachments, when bronze members attach images to posts, they will display as links for non-team as we monitor bandwidth improvements. In a few weeks we will decide to turn them back on for any logged in users and keep them as links for lurkers only. Any image you share from any other site, is not impacted by this at all.

Image blocking is only when you try to link to the image hosted on arfcom from an outside site. So for example if you link an image hosted on this site (from an attachment or media library) to another website to share, the site will send a "missing" image versus the real one. It's for image leaching which has picked up a bit since the attachment piece went live. In short, we will save bandwidth by not allowing outside sites to link into arfcom hosted images for their own use.

Hey Goat, on the EE resources, have you considered running a cron job every 12/24 hours to write to a flat file or database?

Hey Goatboy. Not trying to go off topic here and only bring this up when I see you are posting. On the topic of subscribed threads and having the ability to do multiple deletions off of one click. Also can it be set up so that after a multiple deletion, it does not revert back to the first page.
I know that in another thread iirc, you said it was being worked on. Just wondering...............

Looks like it WAS being pulled form a database every time a post was viewed. And putting them all in a flat file would be a worse solution. Sounds like he's storing the data in a memcached or similar) server that only occasionally updates. Realtime updates of feedback data, which doesn't change often anyway, isn't a vital site function. Sounds like a reasonable course of action.

The right way to handle this is to add a field to the User table that contains a feedback score to display on the site, then have a worker that updates the feedback summary column periodically. I'd have an asynchronous task that does it every time feedback is left, but based on the rest of the site I'd imagine we don't have an AMQP server to manage it.

You're telling me that you can pull usernames from the tables just fine, but not feedback?

That tells me that your data model is all fucked up anyhow. Are you storing the user's information on the post itself, instead of joining to the user model?

Agreed. As I spend more time here than any other site I was looking at a paid membership. I still don't believe paid membership here is worth it but I was willing to support the site anyway. So many threads here screwed up by photobuckets shenanigans, and here you are doing the same thing. This did not and will not encourage me to buy anything here, in reality I will probably spend less time on arfcom. Who the fuck wants to spend all their time here clicking on image links just to read a thread?

Didn't we used to have a 'remove formatting' button in the editor?

It was useful when cutting and pasting brought over a lot of formatting.

I realize people don't like to click links, but this is JUST for attached files, so you can blame bronze members for overly enjoying their uploading powers. (Bastards!) Everyone else's images (Gold+, images linked from off site, etc) should be unaffected. It's more of an attack on those bronze posters than anything!!!! DOWN WITH THE CLASS STRUCTURE!!!!

To give you an idea of what we are looking at, our BW usage has almost doubled. (Think of your mortgage payment doubling and staying that way for months.) It's a little shocking to see and we just want to understand better why we are using so much BW and come up with an approach to address it. The images are part of the issue, we need to see how big a part by segments. Make sense?

We will get it sorted out soon. As I said, I'll cut it down from a week to 48 hours and should have the attached images back to displaying inline tomorrow.

It was addressed.  In the OP:

To slow down some of the BW usage, we are making attachments show up as links for non-team. This should help with things like casual visitors, etc loading a large image thread and sucking up BW.
