One of the reasons I was first attracted to the RAR was the light weight of it, I was considering a Boyds stock to deal with the flimsiness of my .308 Standard, I think what I'll do instead is stiffen up the stock with epoxy. Now, my .450 BM Ranch is going to get a heavier stock.

Started out the morning only having ever owned a 7.62x39 RAR for a pretty short period of time a few years back. It was cool, but I didn’t load for myself at the time and so it really didn’t do much that I couldn’t do with one of my AK’s. So I sold it. Middle of last year, I started rolling my own ammo and so bolt actions started calling out to me again. I wanted to pick up another x39, but just haven’t found the right deal I couldn’t pass up. As a notorious tight ass, I typically only buy items at a price that I would make money on if I ever had to get out of them for any reason. Pretty much everything I own, could be sold for some sort of money that is over and above what I have into it. I don’t buy to sell, but I buy to use until I get bored and not lose. Which leads to today. Walked into the LGS to pick up the transfer of the Talo Yote edition 5.56 that I picked up here in the EE for $400. While waiting my turn, I see they had a 6.5 Grendel Predator for $450. Made them an offer of $400 on it, and now I own 2 of these damn things. Gonna slap a couple of Arken SH4 6-24x50’s on them that I grabbed during the Black Friday sale last year that were $299 each with rings and all. I’ll do some load development this weekend and if they shoot good, I’ll leave them as is. If they show promise but look like a stock change may help, I am going to go KRG Bravos. Been wanting to try a Bravo anyways, so why not. I appreciate all the info found in this thread. Been thru all 26 pages and there is a ton of useful info. Hope to be able to add a little myself. Only thing I did tonight is suppressors and loctite the rail screws on each. How they look right now.

Went and shot yesterday. Frigging wind was crazy yesterday, can't expect it too much with it. Blew hard enough to shake the table I was using. I would be well in my way to a sub MOA group and then it goes to shit. My main intent was to get it zeroed at 100yds. |

I could use some advice, if you all don't mind me jumping in here. If this is the wrong thread, sorry. I'm pretty happy with my Ruger American Ranch 5.56. Stock seems stiff enough to me. Thought of a Magpul stock to mount a light because I like Magpuls for my 10/22's, but I want to keep this rifle as light as possible for sling carry. Anyhoo, the only problem I have to solve is a light. The rifle is for coyotes or lions munching on my critters and I need it to be effective at 25-100 yds day and night. I tried to install a GG&G front swivel stud to pic rail adapter so I can mount the TLR-1 HL 1000 on the forend, but the pin won't install because the swivel stud hole and adapter mount hole don't align. I don't want to jack up the swivel stud, the reach is too far anyway and I don't want to mess with a remote switch. So plan b is this hot mess: a YHM extended pic riser and 90°offset pic rail. It doesn't interfere with the HoloSun and I can activate it with my thumb without changing my support hand position. It carries ok. I'd prefer a single 5 or 6-inch 90° offset rail, but can't find one. Guess I'm the only person on the planet working it this way. Any ideas? Oh, and I'm in Cali, so some stock options are verboten. (Oh, crap. Still waiting on delivery of a Bradley cheek rest and I may want to move the HoloSun forward. Can't do that with the current setup. May end up with the darn heavy Magpul stock after all.) |

I’d simply switch to a stock, like MagPul, that had integrated Picatinny/M-Lok/key mod/whatever mounting points on the stock. |

I think he has a light on the stock stock, not sure how though. |

Use some 1 1/4” drywall screws to mount a small picatinny section anywhere you want on the stock IE all the way forward at the 3 o’clock. The tape switch comes with two sided tape. Another @#$%@! thread that has cost me money. Somehow woke up this morning and have a 450BM sitting besides my desk. Knew I should not have drove by that gun store yesterday afternoon - strays always tend to follow me home. Now I will have to wait till the the stock is in stock... Well that and ammo to be in stock. Just a thought on the flair of the BM. Perhaps the big hole in the center of the barrel made them think they needed a tad more material to cut threads on. --- As a side note - will be driving past another gun store this morning - maybe I can find a pair of kittens to adopt. Not quite ammo compatibility - but 45 Colt is the same diameter bullets at least. Now for a stupid mistake. I wanted a brace of 45 pistols, but could only get one of the design I wanted a month ago. Wanted, well actually wanted the SS version. Looks like the SS are in stock now. So 50/50 I will have a 3 is 2 pair. I can always just think the gun's are cheap compared to the horse I want to shoot them off of (going to the gun store after going ridding this morning). |
