I am not a wrist watch guy. It occurs to me I may need a couple for the upcoming festivities. I want two, and would appreciate any help you can give me. The first one needs to be: Self winding or solar powered. Rugged. Waterproof to at least 3 atmospheres. Reasonably priced. Analog preferred. The second should be all of the above, but capable of synching with that international radio time signal that naval chronometers use. |

Can't go wrong with a G Shock and there's Citizen. Casio also does some non-plastic solar/atomic/analog models. Check out the JDM stuff too. I'm interested in their titanium Lineage line:  Budget for #1? As far as common automatics, there's the higher level Chinese stuff. I have a Steeldive as a yardwork beater. Solid, heavy and basic NH movement inside. If you don't want an homage, San Martin is doing some of their own designs now. A little more ($4-500) would get you Seiko 5, then there is the Prospex line around $600+. There are Citizen automatic sport and dive watches in this range too. ETA: I forgot about Orient. Japanese automatic divers, some with sapphire crystals, generally a little less than Seiko. Now your hitting Hamilton and Tissot price points, especially if you don't mind pre-owned. Sticking with Swatch, Certina DS autos also use the same Powermatic 80. There's Christopher Ward pre-owned in this range too. These are all Swiss-made autos.
