Years ago my mom gifted me a Force1 Velocity speedboat. It’s been in the box until last week when I decided to take it down to our lake with my two sons. It was a lot more fun than I was expecting and the boys loved it. We brought it down to the lake for the second time tonight and the steering does not work. I hear the servo for the steering running, but the rudder does not move. I have no idea how to fix these things or if it’s even worth it. What I do know I want a better RC speedboat. What’s something quality but not too crazy in the $50-$100 range? |

You shouldn't hear the servo running. Disconnect from the rudder and see if the rudder moves smoothly and the servo moves. Those servos tend to have cheap plastic gears and the outboard rudders are easy to bang. There are a ton of RTR boats from China in the $100ish range, unfortunately there are a ton all sold under different names. Wodstock has a UDI 1/12 4wd basher truck, I'm impressed with the quality, especially for the sale price of $93. Looks like UDI has boats, too. Likely it’s a common chinese servo. Simply replace it. Oh and it probably stripped the gears getting dropped or bumping something in to the rudder while out of the water. I fly RC airplanes and we really need to check our servos or you’ll pack the thing to the ground and take it home in a garbage bag. I found two bad servos in preflight. On was a rudder and probably got bumped and the other it just stopped working, probably shorted in the windings. |
The only hyphenated names I like are cartridge names......30-06, 30-40, 38-55 etc.
At some point I'm gonna go full retard on boats, I want a couple of sailboats, something speedy and I've been really eyeballing 3d printed jet boats. Plus a small recovery boat.  The ultimate 3D printed RC basher boat!!! I don't have any right now. |

Have a Thunder Tiger tunnel boat with a 3.5cc outboard. Does around 40mph. Left turns at speed are freaking nuts, right turns well grab a fishing pole to retrieve it . We tried to get a lub together but no one showed. Ran it in a parks lagoon here. A couple of rc boaters here had a problem with some bitch who thought she owned the lagoon. She had a paddleboat business on it and claimed we were "harassing her customers". City ended up tossing her out for something. |

I’ve always wanted to build one of the mahogany Dumas barrel back boat models. It’s about a $400-$500 kit minus running gear and radio gear. One showed up on an RC website last week for $200. I was about to fo, but then I realized I just don’t have enough time left in my life to build all the models and few RC airplane kits I currently own. Even with my airplanes, I’m thinking I might resort to some RTF or used models just to get a variety of flying time in. |
