Hey guys, I’ll try to make this coherent and somewhat succinct.

I’m 55, in really good shape, lift (full body workout, 4-5 circuits and I vary each movement per body part each circuit) every other day, and do some form of cardio or HIIT every other day.  Been athletic my whole life, and lucky not to have any ailments.

My goals are and will continue to be functional strength and aerobic/cardio endurance.

I like my routine.  I’m curious about adding in some component of resistance bands.  I don’t know why, and maybe I don’t need to.

But, I’m curious how or if you guys work these types of exercises in.  Do you add them in on lift days…or have a lift day (or more) of resistance bands only in lieu of weights?  And what types of movements are you doing with resistance bands.

Lastly, I’ve done all kinds of core training on BOSU boards and the larger workout balls, but have never added planks until today.  No doubt you can feel them and know they work.  I’m interested to know when you guys add these in, frequency per week, and what types plank varieties are y’all doing.

Hope this makes sense, and happy to add any additional context.

It doesn't take much to better than most.

I have never used bands by themselves.  I have always used them to increase tension to other exercises, primarily deadlift and squats.

I would suggest incorporating kettlebells instead of bands, or look at the TRX system.
If you don't have a plan, you can't change it.

There are much better core exercises than planks.
I use bands if traveling and for warm ups.  Just treat them like cables and use your imagination to set up for different exercises.

Similar here.

I also use the for small supporting muscles. Band pull parts, Y raises,
External rotations, etc. Good at the home gym for face pulls, straight arms Pulldowns and pullovers.

I just aim for a good hollow body when doing chinups and pushups. Not quite a plank, but saves a lot of time.

You can kind of kill two birds with one stone that way.
