If so how have it lasted for you? I have tried carbide blades twice and while they saw fine the blades tend to break on me. I have done some improvements on my saw that I think might improve this. Am currently using bimetal blades, would like to go back to carbide but am concerned with breakage. |

I have a modded bandsaw that I can saw up smaller stuff (16" dia x 5ft long) and take the bigger stuff to local guys with more normal sized bandsaws made for making lumber. So I saw up mostly Cherry, Sugar and Red Maple, Red and White Oak, Shagbark and Bitternut Hickory along with smaller amounts of Ironwood, Mulberry, Beech and Butternut. I saw up smaller and less desirable stuff so I spend more time on stuff most sawyers would ignore. I have gotten walnut from local sawyers, I don't have any growing on my place of any size. I have taken Sugar Maple and White Oak to local sawyers and I have a large (24" dbh) White Oak that I'm thinking of cutting this winter that will need to done by one of them. Of the 3 sawyers that I have used 2 have wood they sell. One has tons of stuff but he thinks everything he has is worth big dollars. He is very disorganized and and hard to work with on top of it. He owed me some lumber from some logs I gave him. He thought ea. 1 1/2 x 10 x 8ft board was worth $125 at a min. No matter the species. This guy has some stuff, (https://www.facebook.com/Ermers-Sawmill-LLC-329690290464591/) he is just getting his feet on the ground. I have had him saw several short Maple logs for me. He sells live edge stuff and has a kiln. I don't know about his pricing on live edge stuff. I have no sources for olivewood. I really have not gotten into imported stuff myself. |

Found out this morning we are doing Santa present swap thing on Saturday for family get together. Wife said you need a $30 present... No worries I said  So after Dr. Visit I knocked these out.....grabbed one of wifes candles she makes "bird of paradise" smells damn good, coupled with a tin of board butter walla!!! You are fine  A mood scented candle, two small meat and cheese boards for a couple to enjoy by themselves, to set a mood...Ambiance Can also be used as center piece with candles on them. Most of the family are younger couples with kids, so I hope this will help them relax. |

Very cool, could also be "beaver on wood" Wife is at moms doing stuff, so this is drying on the stove with fans blowing, decided to make a knife rack since she is actually getting some quality knives this year. No SS ,soft made in China shit. Attached File I used redish pink epoxy to glue the boards back together. This is 1st knife, 2 moar on the way. Local knife maker, I sent him a sketch and use outline...he delivered! High carbon spring steel, about 58/60 Rc, acid etched patina to let the aging begin. I told him I wanted it to look 400 years old, he delivered. I have a paring and carver in the works, same Brazilian cherry and pins, told him they don't have to match BUT look like they were made from same Smith and same time period. Attached File |

Wow, there's a lot of beautiful work in this thread! I posted this over in GD too, but I'll post it here again because I finally remembered about this forum.  I headed over to my parent's place this morning and helped my dad load his latest project in the truck, a cedar lined cherry hope chest for the granddaughter (my sister's kid).    Trays that sit inside the top under the lid.

About five years ago I built an out feed table for my table saw. It also does duty as a workbench, dust collection and clamp holder. A wet vac is housed in one side that is insulated. It vents out a “muffler” through the bottom. There are computer fans that provide air circulation through the box. The other side is a dust devil and a homemade port system. I made my wife a knife block for her new custom knives. After 40+ years of cooking she knows exactly what she wants a knife to do. I have a local bladesmith working with me and she got her 1st one for Christmas. It went from this Attached File To this Attached File I told him I wanted it to look 400 years old and pretty at same time, he nailed it! She has a few more knives being made right now for valentines day So, since it is a high carbon steel blade (HT'd about 60 Rc) it wanted airflow and no moisture pockets for contact rust. Attached File Attached File She loves it! But I have glue marks that look like crap, tight bond 2, wiped off excess and even followed up with damp rag. How do you not get the stains? All pcs sanded, then glued, cleaned up and satin clear poly |

It just dilutes the glue and helps it soak into the wood, acting as a sealer so that area looks different when you put the finish on. Even if you think you’ve gotten the glue off, you have not. Use limited glue so the squeeze out is minimal. The squeeze out will form clumps or bubbles, don’t smear them. Let the squeeze out dry for an hour or so, then scrape it off. |
