Looking for some input on pos systems. Retail is a small part of our total sales, less then 200k a year gross sales. Want to add a online store but that's not really going to increase sales much. Using zettle but want better reports and inventory tracking. Looking at shopify. Open to other options |
| LIGHTSPEED is what you are looking for. Very complete sales, inventory tracking, profit margins etc. I've been using it since 2014 in 3 locations. |

I have a buddy that is a broker for POS company and he explained to be that Shopify & Lightspeed are 'closed' systems. With those two services, you have to use only their products and they charge you a premium for it. So they can charge you whatever they want as you are locked in. There are similar systems that are 'open' so you can have a broker adjust your fees. He just moved a large online ammo retailer from Lightspeed to another POS system and it saved them over 50% of the fees they were paying. It doesn't sound like a lot, but it was over $10K in POS fees per month. Even at $200K, he can save you thousands a year, but at 1-2% savings. The POS looks and processes the same. Shopify & Lightspeed both have a high credit card processing fee (over 4%) when all the processing fees are accounted for. They spread out the fees so it looks smaller, but they really do charge a lot. Every time my buddy has had a company convert to his company, they pay 30-50% less in fees. It really all comes down to they are willing to take less as it really is pretty much automated once it's set up. So they get paid less, but it is a small percentage of each transaction while not having to do anything other than get the client to covert. Same goes for the business that uses them, they pay 1-2.5% less by switching to a new POS. When every penny counts, it's an easy way to squeeze a little out of it. He is absolutely floored that he can save a company money and most stores won't give him the time of day. He only got in at the ammo company because he knew the owners from shooting matches with them. I'll let my buddy know about this post when I talk to him. But if he doesn't post, message me and I'll put you in contact with him. He really can save you money and is a gun guy. He even got the owner of the company into guns a few years ago and he is all in now. |
| My company is a Clover POS reseller, which is comparable to Lightspeed. Clover sets the software fees (base of $30 to $85/mo), but we handle the rest on the merchant services side. Feel free to DM me if you have questions. I am one of the owners and we do merchant services for all types of businesses. |

We used square at first and the app worked with out phone to take tap payment at shows. Then we were with lightspeed for about a week but didn’t do anything with it since it’s more of a POS for Brick and Mortar. We jumped to Shopify because we are mostly online with some trade shows here and there. All of them issued us a POS or we could use and IPad with a card reader. |
