I have a couple machines in the shop: Lincoln Square-wave 175 Amp TIG, weighs 260 pounds- NOT portable. Lincoln SP170 MIG - portable, but weighs 65 pounds, and needs 240 volt power. Any of the light duty suitcase/inverter rigs worth a shit? Obviously, they'll all ship from Xhina.... Like to be able to stick weld for field repairs, run flux core wire in wind and rain- portable field work. Any brand names to avoid? |

Lincoln SP125+. I use a tank with mine and it's on a cart but if you use flux core it is VERY portable. I've built up entire skid plates with it that you could jack the entire vehicle up off the ground using it with no damage to the skid. |

120v, Titanium 125 fluxcore, only holds 2lb rolls & good for 1/4" or less thickness. Weight less than 20lbs w/roll. Got two of them, one set .030 the other .035. They've held up well. eta: for what I do anymore they're good enough, hadn't needed to use my stick welders in a long time. Built a jig to refill 2lb rolls from 10lb rolls since online find 10lb rolls fairly cheap. |
| Son seems to like the Arccaptain MP205 that I got him for Christmas. Their FB user pages and support pages are pretty active. Others seem pleased as well. You won't be welding with it 40 years from now, but in the short term, it does more things than the HF Titans for less $. Also did very well in tests of multiple cheap welders. |
