Plane Wellness Woodworking Show This is coming up in a couple weeks, at the Big Butler Fairgrounds - just west of Butler PA, on US-422 Not the same fairgrounds as where Trump was shot, that was the Farmshow fairgrounds. Looks like they are stepping up their game from last year, which was a nice show on its own. But lots of presenters and demonstrations, I think they are trying to incorporate more hands on learning. Some good presenters in there. I have taken a chairmaking class from Jeff Lefkowitz (Brian Boggs ladderback "modern"appalachian style) - he does some very nice and complete drawings and templates for these chairs, and he also does drawings for Curtis Buchanan and his windsor chairs. Don Weber i have gone to see a few times, very knowledgeable about historic finishes and techniques. Kind of a more polished version of Roy Underhill. And several others are current youtube producers/creators. Plus they will have many vendors with antique and newly made woodworking hand tools. You won't see any sawstop there I don't think |

They also had a few nearby pole barns for used tool sellers. Funds were low so I only bought a shave horse plans and instruction book from Jeff Lefkowitz- he does really nice instruction books and drawings, given his graphic arts background. He also trenches some classes on making Brian Boggs style ladder back chairs. They had a big pavilion tent for the live demos. And it was a cold wet Saturday - not t-shirt weather that day. And then Sunday (only went Saturday) was unseasonably hot. 2027 they will hold the event at the Washington County Fairgrounds (Washington Pa, south of Pittsburgh). They do have some larger buildings there. But I don’t mind these events all being right around Pittsburgh, instead of hundreds of miles away, which I’ve done a few times, like when Popular Woodworking used to put on some good shows. Never did make it to Handwerks out in Amana Iowa Shave horse demo - his version has a pretty ingenious adjusting mechanism Attached File Attached File Attached File Attached File Attached File Attached File Attached File Attached File Nice spoke shaves, but I cannot find any current info on this maker, they were on a silent(?) auction. And they made you be there at closing on Sunday if you made the high bid on any auction items Looks like he only sells through Etsy, but doesn’t have anything listed now. Attached File Neat quilt on auction too. They had a calendar or catalog cover from Lee Valley scanned and printed on fabric for the panels. It looked like it was just the one image repeated Attached File |
