Question from the original thread: Anybody here dive CCR? Apparently not, so this thread will be about what it takes to go from open circuit tech to closed circuit rebreather. Might be a while to update as I will be waiting for the release of the Kiss Sidewinder 2, which is slated to start releasing this fall - first to instructors, then the general public. My local instructor will likely be Edd Sorenson at Cave Adventurers, and I've already reached out to them to confirm that they train year round. If all goes to plan, I'll begin training over the winter. Ultimately my CCR goals are the Grand Traverse at Peacock Springs, touching the screws on the Oriskany, and getting down to the sand whenever the United States is sunk. Would also like to take it with me on my trip to Tulum next March, but that may not be feasible due to availability of CCR stuff. Might have to switch back to OC sidemount for that trip. Anyways, more to follow. |

I’ve been diving CCR for the last 10 years or so. The one thing that you will learn is people pick up brand of rebreather and then use it as an identity. Don’t become one of those guys. I find myself diving circuit a lot more lately. I got wrapped up doing some super deep dives for a few years. I didn’t have any close calls or anything, but I found myself questioning why I was doing it. Met some cool guys and did some cool dives. Unless I need helium, I don’t break out the CCR anymore. Doubles just make more sense for me these days. |
