I have not deep cleaned my pipes in a long long time. I currently have 25 soaking on their second round of the salt/everclear treatment. I went through an entire bag of pipe cleaners and a pile of cotton swabs. Those little scrubby brushes for cleaning pipes are a wonderful thing. I guess I should do this more often. It's a royal pain to have the entire collection to process. Luckily I bought 4 pipes in December so those don't need any work. I smoke predominantly Balkan style blends, so I can't imagine how much this would suck if I smoked aromatics! |

Ah, I knew a guy that would go to Thailand to get his pipes cleaned. How many are you cleaning at once?! 25? Overachiever. Restoring pipes is a good winter project. Well done. Anything exotic we should be aware of? I hunt them at flea markets and the like. Nothing too exotic found. Old, but not exotic. Favourite of the old timers is a tiny Kaywoodie that is octagonal. At least 70 years old. Two-dolla flea market find. |

Yeah, I should be cleaning them more often. But I get lazy and never make time. The majority of my collection is made up of Petersons and Savinelli. I bought all of the special editions from both in 2025, so I have the Christmas, Halloween, and St Patrick's pipes from Peterson and the Christmas Savinelli. I have 2 Danish freehand pipes, a Tim West, and some random stuff. I don't have enough meerschaums, only three. I just bought myself a restored 1975 Dunhill for my 50th birthday last month, which right now is the crown jewel. On New Years Eve I found a 2025 Dunhill that was in my price range that I ordered from Smoking Pipes that isn't here yet. I bought a dozen corn cobs in a mystery bag of smokable seconds from Missouri Meerschaum a few years ago and a bunch of them are still around. Plus 5 or 6 clays, mostly the tavern length churchwarden style. Overall, nothing special except for that one Dunhill and the one I'm waiting on. |

That’s cool that you found a ‘25 Dunhill that you liked. I really neglect cleaning mine as often as I probably should.

I'm stoked to have a 50 year set from my birth year and from last year. I'm still working on cleaning some, and I counted up the whole collection. Including clays and corn cobs I have 45 pipes. I think that's more than sufficient, bordering on too many. I had one in the garage with a broken bit that I didn't realize is a Savinelli. I thought it was just a good smoking basket pipe. I may send it off to get a new stem made for it, because I do like the way it smokes. |
