I figured this was worthy of its own thread. PLD Custom is something Ping has been offering for a few years now where you get a tour level fitting and then they build you a one-off putter with all sorts of customization options. It’s pricey at $1490, but nobody else is offering anything like it that I’m aware of. The fitting “platform” where they take all their measurements is crazy. It’s 40ish feet long and stacked slabs of granite that go into the ground independent of the building’s foundation so there are no vibrations from outside traffic. I think he said it weighs 70 tons and is flat to 0.001”. I’ve been using a Spider for a while and if I’m struggling with anything, it’s distance control on lag putts. It’s not like I’m a bad putter, their data metrics ranked me as a +4 handicap. I told him I’d like to get back into something more blade-like because I thought it would help with speed control, but also said I’d use a dildo on a stick if he proved I’ll make more putts. ![]() This is the base putter we went with, which you already can’t buy in carbon steel. Anser 2D which is a wider blade and gives me a bit more confidence over the regular size. The problem is it’s too heavy. Attached File But here’s the cool part with the level of customization available… He said they’ll cut a big “sound slot” to remove a bunch of weight, then actually add some tungsten plugs to the outside to bring the weight back up to 350g. The result will be my preferred head weight AND more forgiveness. They’ve never done it on this head so it’ll be 1 of 1. So we ended up with: Carbon steel Anser 2D @ 350g Smooth face Dark patina finish Sight line only on top line Matte black steel shaft Old Ping logo in cavity Attached File So the wait begins, probably around 6 weeks. They have a way to do this fitting remotely, but doing it at the headquarters is an awesome experience. Attached File Attached File Attached File |

Buying your way to better putting might work, but if you don't practice with it...... Then there's this thing with golf like keep it in the fairway, pitching, chipping and a slew of other shit like any other Sunday. I digress and truly I jest! And damn that is a nice looking putter, I hope it works for you! |

and.... If you can put to a +4 level, then improve some other areas and try to Monday qualify! Or at least maybe some USGA events? I have met many many high skilled players who had great ball striking but couldn't make it in professional golf because they couldn't putt. They felt like they were constantly giving up 2 strokes to the field due to their putting. They said that ball striking could be learned through instruction and practice but putting couldn't be taught. |

I committed to playing in USGA qualifiers this year and signed up for my first one, the US Open local qualifier at Phoenix Country Club. My main goal is not getting the famous nastygram from the USGA

Since these events are limited to handicaps around scratch or better, they’ll ban you from competing for a period of time if you shoot a high number. I think it’s mainly trying to get rid of guys who fake low caps so they can say they played in an open qualifier |
I played in a 2-man best ball match play today and went low. It was only at 6000 yards, but still gotta get the ball in the hole. I’m still pissed about the bogey on 18. ![]() The rumor is my putter will be ready next week. Attached File |

I got these preview pics fresh off the mill a couple days ago. It took a bit since this is the first Anser 2D they’ve done with a sound slot. The sound slot took it from 365g to 347g. The original plan was to add tungsten weights to get it to the final 350g, but he said it would be like 355g if they did that. I told him to leave it at 347g. I’d rather add a little lead tape than risk it ever feeling too heavy. Should be done very soon. Attached File Attached File |

I’m more interested than anyone about the sound because there obviously weren’t any examples to try. The fitter believes the wider head and being carbon steel will keep it from sounding too high pitched. My old coach had a carbon Cameron 009 circle T with a sound slot that sounded great. |

Engraving done. Just waiting on the patina finish and paint fill now. I love my cactus lol Attached File |

Great round! Looking at that card it's clear that the putter agrees with you, but I'm also impressed with your GIR numbers So how does the putter sound? The slot is supposed to make a big difference in the way it sounds. |

It gives a little extra feedback because you can tell more by the way it sounds how you hit it. The carbon steel and smooth face feel amazing. I’ve never liked inserts or faces with deep milling. |

Play well Sean! Nice 66 with a 7! Would be sweet to not worry about qualifying. ETA: 66 |

Can't beat qualifying on something you can't plunk your CC down to play. |

The funny thing is it’s the same course as the tournament I just played. So I would’ve definitely canceled this one haha I hear you though, a lot of these tournaments give me the opportunity to play tournaments I don’t normally get access to. |

Well, at least you've seen the place recently. One or two rounds to qualify? Man there were a lot of 1 putts on that 66! That had to feel fantastic after spending the coin on that experience? You have an alternate cover to put on her so you're not beating up the original? What branch were you in? Someone may have an extra that would fit nicely |

I’m planning to beat the crap out of that cover, doesn’t do me any good sitting in the house! I was Army Infantry. |

Spend an hour or two 4 or 5 days a week just putting and damn did I get good. I'd tell Dad 10 footers were gimmes. He'd make me putt it anyway and I'd make 95% or more. Then I got a job and my putting went down the toilet. Still wouldn't spend that much for a putter though. Good luck with it op. |
