Youngest daughter showed me this video from one of the YouTube channels she watches. I know about brake cleaner, but curiosity got me googling and I discovered a number of other chemicals with the same risk like paint removers, some adhesives, and old refrigerants. What I didn’t know is that apparently many of the chemicals (including brake cleaner) leave a residue behind even after they have fully evaporated and the bad chlorine is in the residue. I had always assumed the concern was about welding before the brake cleaner had evaporated.  "It smelled funny while I was welding and now I can't breathe..." |

Phosgene was much more effective and more deadly than chlorine in WW1. What's really fucked up is the SDS sheet info for CRC Weld Kleen..... Attached File Attached File We burn through cases of it weekly in the shop I work in. As if Hexavalent chromium wasn't enough.

| From class’s I took years ago, I think I remember that you don’t even need to actually be welding where the chemicals are on the surface, just exposure to the intense UV/IR light from the arc can convert it.. |

I remember dragging 6011 rods on galvanized shit metal, our foreman would dog us about milk during break periods. |
