My last two desktop PCs do something I was wondering about. Currently my PC is a Dell 9020. I plug my PCs into a power surge protector. I shut down as normal, and after it's off I switch off the power strip. When I switch on the power strip the computer powers on a few seconds then turns off? I hit the power button on the PC and it boots up. It seems to be normal since two in a row do the same thing. What's going on? |

There is a box in the back inside the PC which is a power supply. It does the switching and monitors the motherboard for the 'on' button on the front. Applying power, is that part starting up. You aren't doing your computer any favors removing electrical like that. Maybe during a storm or something but normally, just leave it on. |

I have a UPS on my TV and stereo for the same reason. I have a whole house surge arrestor and a separate one on my HVAC. Yes, HVAC cunts tried to say I had a lightning strike. Then I told them what I did for a living. It wasn't brought up again.  My new laptop starts up so fast, I wonder if it really ever shuts off.
